So it seems like our usual go-to for island transportation from the airport to Red Hook (Freddy -- from Dynamic Tours) does not work on Saturdays b/c of religious reasons.

While I certainly respect that....it leaves our group looking for alternative arrangements for a private taxi/van from airport to the Red Hook ferry. We enjoy not having to deal with the stops typically associated with the group taxis at the airport....and more importantly like having someone to hold our luggage on the day of our departure while we do some shopping in STT.

Does anyone have a good private taxi that they would recommend? A link to website or email would also be greatly appreciated.

Eric

Never worried about a private taxi and if you take theCA ferry on the way back ask the taxi captain that you need your bags held he will arrange it.

Someone recommended Wheatley Taxi but I have never heard of anyone using them before so I am not sure if they are good/bad.

Our family used Christophere's Taxi Service a cou[ple of weeks ago. He took us from the airport to Red Hook - there were 7 of us and he was at the airport when he said he would be and we were pleased with his service and would definitely use him again. His cell phone number is (340) 690-1581 or you can email him at [email protected]

McLaughlin Anderson Vacation Villas use Wheatley Taxi as escorts to the vila and I can vouch for them! Phone number is:340-473-8900.
Also I know Christopher's Taxi as well, and this is his specialty. Don't know his contact info.
You will be just fine! Have a great trip!

Thanks so much -- I just got off the phone with Wheatley and we are all set -- $75 for our group of 4 with luggage...a few bucks more per person than the group taxi but WELL worth it in my opinion especially if we can catch the earlier ferry and get to paradise as soon as possible!!

Never thought of a private taxi. Going to St Johns via the Charlotte Amalie or Red Hook ferry. Suggestions and advice would be appreciated.

Please correct me if I am wrong but I believe that the CA ferry was out of commission and the RH ferry is your only option. My wife and I have gone the private taxi route for our last several trips and have found it to be a refreshing alternative to the cattle cars that usually wait till they are full before leaving the airport. I am sure people have had better experiences...but for me the extra few bucks is worth the service.

I think you're missing the point . . . your on vacation. That is what is so great about the islands, you don't have to hurry and plan everything out. Just relax and enjoy all the beauty around you!!!

I really don't plan much at all once I get there...my vacation begins the moment our ferry pulls up and we sit down for a few painkillers!

Our vacation really kicks in as soon as we step off the plane in STT and get that blast of tropical air. Nowhere i need to be by any particular time for a week or two, so I'm certainly not going to be in any rush. I like stopping for a rum punch, geting the luggage and wandering out of the terminal to find a van going to Red Hook.

I've never thought about arranging for private transportation. Just never crossed my mind to do so. I've always enjoyed the trip across STT. We've met some nice folks in the van, people who are as excited to be there as we are. I enjoy the tour of the island and sometimes the extra bonus of seeing one of the resorts if people are being dropped off there on the way. It helps me to begin to slow down and begin to shift into Island Time. If we miss the ferry, we don't mind. Another one will come and we get to sip a Carib , enjoy the scene at the ferry dock and marvel at how beautiful it all is. . Before i started coming around to these forums, I never really realized that there was a ferry schedule. We'd just get there and take the first one that came. My watch gets put in my pocket at some point in the van ride across the island. Life's sweet and slow in the VI.

The CA ferry is up and running. They has some equipment problems for about a week, but are back on track running.
