I am planning on renting a boat from Nauti Nympth in March. Im not too experienced with the waters in St. Thomas but I am born and raised there and I do have experience operating boats state-side so technically i'm not a novice. How many nautical miles is it from Red Hook to Magens bay? Or, if this may be a little easier, how long does it take to get by motorboat from Red Hook dock to Magens.

Depending on the seas (most likely the trip TO Magens will be shorter than the trip BACK, as the Seas usually come out of the East, but you should be able to get from Pillsbury Sound to Magens in about half an hour...figure 45 minutes to return, due to heading into the seas on the way back...I know Magens is rated as one of the top beaches...but you will be passing some real gems by boat that are not accessible by car or taxi or are just off the beaten path...like Lindqvist (which is accessible by car)..., or Sunsi (by boat only)...I think Sunsi's absolutely beautiful, it's secluded, you'll pretty much have it to yourself....and I have caught lobsters off to the right (shh!!). You'll have many options, that's for sure. And Nauti Nymph will provide you with a chart (pay attention to the depths!!), so you'll be able to navigate pretty well. And you do remember where boats are allowed in Magens, right?? Far North and Far South ends...

Thanks for the promt response Marty. I know it seems like a wasted day (it pretty much is 😀 ) but I was doing it as a favor for my sister. It's her 15 yr old daughter's birthday and I figured I could take kids on the boat and do some tubing. I did the ride once with a freind and it didn't seem long at all so your pretty much spot on it seems!
