G. Hooper... unless something changes between two weeks ago and January 2004 there are no bareback boat rentals on St. Croix for you to captain yourself. The boat trips are charters with captain, lunch.... to designated spots/or you can discuss spots I suppose.

Any other water sports that you might consider that we can make recommendations on?

thanks for the feedback...trying to figure out how we can accomplish this without going on a "group" trip...a friend of my husband visits st croix for 2 wks each year and led us to believe it is possible to rent a small boat for a day or so...

On St. Thomas there are several places to rent boats and on St. John as well. I called around recently (about 2 weeks ago) to look into boat rentals on St. Croix and couldn' t find operators/business offering this. I then contacted a water sports company to inquire - and they said they don't know of any, that perhaps the Yacht club might rent sail boats bareback... so I called the St. Croix Yacht Club and they said they did not rent any boats.

Some resorts that are on the beach have watersports booths and some of these rent some sail crafts/ not sure what the right name for them are -a hobie cat maybe?? Fits about 2 people, not meant to go out far just waiting a bay area for example... I remember seeing them at a couple beaches.

Perhaps ask your husband to ask his friend where they usually rent their boat from??

Well you can take a small charter but if its just the two of you ... even the 6 packs usually require minimum of four or you have to pay for all spots which could run $600... and there would be the captain and an assistant usually.
