We plan on renting a power boat for the day while on St. John touring some of the islands off on our own. How does the BVI passport work? Where do we go to check into customs? We also plan on going to Virga Gorda/Baths, but is it too far to get there by power boat? We might just do an excursion for that, but figured if we could get there, we'd save some money that way. What are you thoughts on this?

You need to use your passport to check in with BVI immigration at West End, Tortola, then you are free to go about your fun! Not too far to get to the baths. leave early.
