I will be visiting STJ next month and stay for several weeks. I will be sending and receiving several packages through USPS while at STJ. I'm pretty sure the rates are the same as on the US mainland but what about the shipping time? How long does it take the USPS to deliver a small package from STJ to the US mainland?
Thanks.
Use this sites Search function set to All Dates to verify my answer. Use Priority Mail with Delivery Confirmation on packages being sent to the U.S. Virgin Islands and you can expect from one to two week delivery times. Going from here to the states I believe will be faster. The Priority Mail rates are slightly higher to here because of the domestic mail region we are in. Check the USPS web site for rates.
Just remember Puerto Rico and the USVI have the worst USPS performance records, and all mail to and from the USVI must transit through Puerto Rico. USPS considers USVI as a domestic location, while all Express carriers price this as an international location at about double the cost, with lots of limitations on door to door delivery.
From STJ to the States via USPS Priority Mail for me usually 4-5 days
To STJ from the States via USPS Priority Mail for me usually 8-12 days is normal, record for me 4 days (only one time) and the longest 6 weeks.

The flat rate Priority mail boxes are the bomb! I'd heard/read that from stateside to here they were really good but my first experience using them was just a few days ago and it was from here to there. I had two boxes weighing 7 lbs each, returned auto parts but that's a whole 'nother tale. I presented them at the Tutu Mall PO around noon on Thursday and both were delivered to Ohio on Saturday.
My record for receiving a priority package (and I get one every week) is 5 business days...the worst was 14 days....normal is 6-7 business days........sent from a post office in NJ to STT.
Sent myself a flat rate Priority Mail box, mailed on Saturday from New Jersey, delivered yesterday at Secret Harbour. Not bad at all. However, a supervisor at USPS told me that since Priority Mail doesnt have a tracking function, if a shipment goes off the rails it can be months before it turns up delivered or located. Caveat emptor...
