Please help us decide on our day trip(s)! Here is what we would like to see:

Baths
White Bay
Caves
Indians
Willey T's

We can do one day trip on the powerboat Born to Rhumb. Captain called this a normal day on the boat. He says two out of three trips these are the stops he makes.

Advantage: Gives us an extra day on St. John
Disadvantage: Stops might be hurried or rushed?

Or

Two day trips. The powerboat trip on New Horizons II to the Baths and White Bay and a daysail on Breath to Caves, Indians and Willey T's (first choice was White Wing but apparently he may not be sailing in June and I also heard a rumor that he has stopped doing the BVI run due to customs issues).

Advantage: More time at each stop, sailing experience
Disadvantage: Takes up two days on St. John

Please vote for your preference!

I struggled with this same decision. I also talked to the captain on Born to Rhumb and he seemed like a great guy. We just couldn't afford to charter the power boat with only two people going.

This is what we are doing instead. Stormy Petrel/Pirate Penny to The Baths, Cooper Island for lunch it also has some snorkeling if time, and a stop at either the Indians, The Caves or Peter Island depending on the wind/water conditions. We are then taking a motor boat on a second day to Jost Van Dyke to see the Bubbly Pool, and White Bay/Soggy Dollar with Lion in da Sun. We did it this way so that we had more time on JVD and because I really wanted to see the Bubbly Pool and couldn't find anyone else that did it as part of a day charter. They do a per person charter on Tuesdays to JVD with Maho Bay Campgrounds activity desk.

Sail boats don't leave as much time for site seeing/snorkeling but then you enjoy the sail.

I would have gone out with Captain Kevin on Born to Rhumb if more of us were in our group. With the private charter you can direct him to where you want to go and how much time you want to spend at each stop. New Horizons II and Stormy Petrel/Pirate Penny have great reviews but they do fit a lot into the day as well and you go according to their schedule.

If you want to sail, try a sunset sail around St. Thomas or St. John in addition to Born to Rhumb which is usually about half the cost as the BVI trip. We are doing a sunset sail with Long Distance out of Coral Bay. I also checked with White Wing and he wasn't available during our vacation week.

I am taking our trip Easter week. When are you going?

Chrisn, your best bet might be to do Trunk Bay last. They have about the best restrooms of the beaches we visited on STJ. The showers ore under a shelter next to the restrooms, sorry I don't remember if there was a plug in the restroom.

It's quite alright Scuba. Too funny, for a minute there, I thought you might be hitting the sauce!

Actually, it wasn't my fault. For some reason I have a slow clicker today and I thought you guys probably wouldn't relate! Things just arn't congruent today, maybe it would be better if I was on the sauce?

I know how this happened. Scubado sent a reply to me on my question. Thanks Scubado. I had also sent a reply to chrisn and the two messages where running down from eachother.

Chrisn - watch for my trip report after Easter and I'll let you know how our two BVI trips went. The only thing I wasn't interested in was the Willy T.

chrisn: I am not voting, but I will ask YOU a question or so...

Have you been the Virgin Islands before?
Do you want to get an overview of them or are there specific places that you want to see?
Are you the kind of vacationer who cannot sit still or can you sit on a beach all day reading a book?

I ask because there is no way you can do it all. You have to make choices.

Ah c'mon East Ender where's your vote?

Yes I have been to both St. Thomas and St. John.

These are the specific places we would like to see in the BVI waters.

I am both types of vacationer. I am a girl that likes to have a good time, but I am also a California girl and was basically raised a beach baby so I can be in absolute bliss just parking my butt all day with a snorkel here and there. Add the stunning, breathtaking beaches of St. John, and color me torquoise, I'm in heaven!

You should probably know that hubby and I are traveling with our kids daughter 18 (her graduation trip) and son 8. They are well traveled and we all LOVE to snorkel.

Okie dokie. Then I vote for ONE day trip with the top BVI place as your destination. I would do either New Horizon or Pirate's Penny/Stormy Petrel. If you spend all your time zipping from here to there you will need a vacation from your vacation when you get home!

Always save something for the next visit!

(P.S. We have a friend who comes to visit for a week every year. We take him one new place every year. In 10 years we haven't run out of new destinations!)
