We're considering Point Pleasant for our visit in March. I welcome your feedback on the rooms, location, tips, etc. Are there any rooms we should request or rooms to avoid? I've read the reviews and have heard both good and bad.

Hi There,

I spent a little time there in August. Point Pleasant is a nice resort. The rooms are in small buildings that run up the side of the mountain so you can get some really nice views....also some really long hikes to get down to the beach. As to rooms to request, you may want to do that based on whether you prefer the really nice views from on top of the hill or the short walk to the beach lower down the hill. The beach itself is OK (shared with the Renaissance), but IMO not one of the nicer ones on STT. But then it's easy to get to any of the other beaches.

There are two restaurants, Funghi's which is right on the water and an informal place with good food and a nice selection of west indian dishes. You also have Agave Terrace at the top of the resort. For years AT was one of our favorite restaurants on the island, but after this last visit, it's now one to skip.

Hi Mickey...

Just spent 2 weeks at Point Pleasant last half of Sept. We rented one of the upper corner units with a wrap around deck. We enjoyed the view of the BVI's and Sugar beach.

The staff was more than pleasant, we often would be walking down to the beach or resturant and Willie, one of the staff, would pick us up and take us the rest of the way. Their advice on any question was always truthful and almost always helpful. We were on a property buying trip, and sometimes wanted to know about a neighborhood, etc.

We skipped the Agave resturant this time, to try others, but don't miss Fugi's on the beach. Henery and AL will make you feel welcome and serve up great dishes. Portions are plenty, and Zak Attacks (cocktail) are named well.

We skipped the beach, visiting the more popular ones for snorkling, etc. The resort is located on 15 acres, so the "condo's are spread out over a hillside. Three pools, a pretty cool staff, and a very nice apt met our expectations for a business trip, visit.

Hope you find this helpful, there are other resorts that I think are as nice, but for us, Point Pleasant allowed us some privacey, a view, and plenty of help if we needed it.

Andrew

Schultz,

Thank you very much for your response on PP. Why has Agave Terrace fallen off of your list of favorites?

Thanks again,
Mickey

Hi Mickey,

In years past Agave was always consistent in both quality of food and service. This year the service was terrible, even by island standards. In addition, the menu was changed considerably....and IMO not for the better. The trademark salad with grapefruit sections is no more. Half of the sauces were 'unavailable' this year when we were there. And, when the waiter brought us our meals, they were not as described on the menu and no effort was made to correct the differences when we pointed this out to the waiter. Overall, the experience was poor......and considering what they charge, we felt it to be unacceptably bad. There are too many other, quality places to eat on the island.

Several of our friends who were on island at the same time that we were and who also made Agave a regular stop had the same experience. For the first time in years, we didn't hear one complimentary opinion from anyone who had recently eaten there.

My husband and I just got back Sunday from 8 nights at Point Pleasant. We totally enjoyed our stay. We had one of the lower units with a wrap around deck. It was very private, could always leave the drapes open. The view was wonderful, not just from the deck, but from anywhere in the room. The room was clean and airy, maid service every day. The property is very hilly and spread out. We are walkers so we did not mind. There are shuttles if you do not want to walk. Funghi's restaurant was good for casual dining. We rented a jeep and had no trouble parking, but it was still out of season. In season, I am not sure it would be so easy, also where we had to park was a little tricky to turn the jeep around. We would and probably will stay there again. Our room was E1.

Wife & I stayed at PPR early December.

Overall, liked it (access to Coki Beach, big resort next door, easy access to $1 taxi,)

We stayed directly above Fungis which presented a few probelms (noise & jerk smell from exhaust fan)

Overlooked it & enjoyed our stay.
