We stayed at Point Pleasant 5 days in February after we got off a charter sailboat. We were a family of five, 3 kids 10, 8 and 6, and it was a great place to stay. Check in took a long time, not really sure why, but the condo rooms are huge, clean, good kitchen, great views and inexpensive. We would walk down to the highway and jump on the Safari Taxi and it took us where we needed to go. You are right next to the Wyndham which has great breakfasts, since Point Pleasant has no breakfast service, but we cooked mostly. My husband was able to walk to the little store in Smith Bay for some basic groceries. Point pleasant is a little older.....but definitely worth the money. I cannot wait to go back. 3 pools, Monday party....bar, live music.......or just quiet , depending on what you want....very high reccomendation!

Jenifer:

We own a condo at Point Pleasant and stay here for about 4 months each year....so my opinion may look to be a little biased.

However, I've personnally seen about 25% of the (124) condos here since buying in 2004 and I can say that generally all of the ones that I've seen are in good to excellent condition. Each condo has a kitchen.

The resort has 3 pools, 2 restauarants, tennis courts, an activities desk, free internet (in the lobby if you're a hotel guest), free transportantion in the morning to the Wyndham Sugar Bay Resort for breakfast, free snorkel gear & kyaks, etc. You can also book the Morningstar (sailboat) charter from the activities desk. The Morningstar is based at Point Pleasant.

You're within walking distance of Coki Beach and a short drive to Lindqvist Beach and Sapphire Beach. Red Hook is about 1.5 miles away for the ferry to St. John and the BVIs (Jost Van Dyke, Tortola). There is a very small beach at Poiint Pleasant (Sugar Beach). It's about 80 feet wide and surrounded by boulders, so it's very private.

Do book at least a superior suite, as they are larger than the Jr. Suites (Efficiencies). Of course I'm partial, but the condos on the top of the hill are the best (for the view)........however, if you want waterfront then they are available, also......but request this at the time of booking or when checking in at the front desk.

Very important: Wherever you stay rent a car. Then you are free to explore this beautiful island.

If you want more information just send me a Private Message (PM) from this board.

If you are going to rent from Point Pleasant in the short term next six month to a year, use VRBO and rent directly from an owner. Trust me on this one.

Captain Jay:

Take it from me.........renting at Point Pleasant via VRBO for a short vacation is not really recommended.

VRBO renters, not participating in the official rental pool, do not receive resort benefits. In other words no free internet, no free transportation (even to the condo), no free snorkel gear, and most of all "no on-site front desk service". You're virtually on your own.

In the past I've tried to help many people who have used VRBO rentals at Poiint Pleasant after finding them wandering around the resort for hours trying to find or get into their condo. Then there were the guests who didn't have a key for their VRBO condo...it was suppossed to be under a flower pot...it wasn't. They paid for their visit, but no key and no one to go to, as the owner was on "vacation" and couldn't be reached.

If a VRBO rental guest has a problem with the condo they can't call the front desk for assistance.

Too many complaints about Point Pleasant are posted on travel websites by guests who rent through VRBO (and other sites), have problems with their condo and then complain that the resort management staff didn't help them. When operating out of the rental pool the management agency has no authority to do anything in the condo. So now the guest either has to contact the owner or the owner's rental agent (if there is one). In the meantime the guest is wasting valuable vacation time trying to get something, that's not their fault, fixed.

Usually, but not always, VRBO rentals are less expensive than booking directly though a resort. But you get what you pay for.

We've stayed there a few times and really like it. We booked ours through cheapcaribbean.com - no problems at all. The views are incredible, the suites are large & clean and ours (can't speak for all of them) had a fantastic balcony. There is also an i-net tower across the bay on Coki Point so for a few bucks a week we could get a strong wireless signal in our room.

Yes, Point Pleasant, like most properties, does participate in the national/worldwide discount travel web-sites.

Or you could book directly with the resort.......the choice is yours....the price is (usually) the same, but sometimes the resort has unadvertised specials.

Thanks a bunch!!! I can safely book our trip now 🙂 The biggest selling point for me is the easy access to Coki Point.

May the count down begin!!!!!

I was trying to be subtle, the resort is going through major management changes. I would not give anyone money until the dust clears.

Captain Jay:

Are you an owner at Point Pleasant?

If there were a problem, wouldn't any credit card deposit be "protected"?

No I am not an owner, I live here and know a lot of people. Didn't really want to get into this on an open forum the current management company is going out of business. Transition will be neither painless or smooth. Future islander if you are an owner and in the rental program it might be time to make some phone calls.
As for the credit card, yes that might protect a renter but would you want to bet your vacation on it.

Regardless of the vagaries connected with any prospective changeover in management of condos at PP (Antilles Resorts selling out their Sapphire and PP to another entity) I rather question Jennybug's choice of PP based on its proximity to Coki Bay/Coki Point. Coki is certainly a very popular venue but I'd be hard pressed to find anyone who'd base their vacation stay based solely on Coki's proximity. Methinks Jennybug needs to do some more research.

Captain Jay:

Yes, Antilles Resorts did move back to STX as of March 31....going out business? They're consolidating their business ventures on STX. They also pulled out of Sapphire Beach and Pavillions & Pools.

Three replacement companies were being considered for the past several months.

As of April 1st, Exclusive Resort Management (ERM) is managing the Point Pleasant rental pool.

Sooooo.....there appears to be a seamless transition....take it from someone who actually owns here and knows what is going on.

Even if the worst had happened, the Point Pleasant Owners Association, the best on the island, would take over the hotel operation.

STT: Why not want to be close to Coki Beach?????? Jeniffer's choice makes sense...it's where she wants to be and it's close to everything, including the Toad & Tart (which is just down the road)........

😉

I should have added a bit more information regarding my trip. This will be our 4th trip to the USVI's

The first trip we stayed at the Wyndham - our first dinner was at the "Toad and the Tart" (had to add that Future islander)

Second trip we rented a Villa from Hull Bay Hideaway - We absolutely loved the villa!!

Third trip we went to STX and stayed at the Palms at Pelican Bay - another wonderful choice.

My favorite beach has always been Coki Point. I know there was a shooting and yes we've witnessed people smoking pot...but the water has always been beautiful & calm.

I haven't booked my trip yet....but it will be done by Monday. It's so hard to choose a place when all the islands are beautiful. The trip is just four weeks away so I need to get busy!!!

Thanks!!!
Jeniffer

Our first trip to STT six years ago was a stay at Point Pleasant and we fell in love with VI. Get a condo high on the hill and enjoy the views. No one mentioned Fungi's and that is a great place for Roti and coctails on the water!(tu)
