It has been a long time since I've been to Point Pleasant, but the pics I see on the websites look inviting, but all of the islands look that way. I do know the views are wonderful and from this forum they say if you don't mind walking, which I don't, stay up high, get a corner unit with 1 bedroom. I am planning on staying there in July. It is an older resort, with a great restaurant and very good location. Also I think it still has a car rental on site for island exploration which is a must. The pool on the upper level has a fabulous view of St John and the surrounding cays, always seems to have nice tradewinds. When I return from my trip, I will leave a post on the forum. I really haven't read much on P.P. If you stay there, you too must leave us your comments. They will be appreciated.
Ginger:
Whoa!!!!!!! We just stayed here March 1-8, 2006.
Point Pleasant is a beautiful resort. After saying that......if you're interested in a 5 star all service resort then go to the Ritz Carlton for $800. per night. If you want a solid 3 star resort for about $200. per night (+/-) then Point Pleasant is for you.
The units are really condos that are individually owned (and cared for). They are managed by Antilles Resorts. I've visited about 20 or so units (in the past 2 years) and found ALL of them to be very nice. Each "Superior Suite" contains one bedroom (a separate room) and a full kitchen, dining area and living room. The best part of being here is the view. Some units have a wrap-around balcony, others have a front balcony. All Superior Suites have a pull-out queen sofa bed in the living room. Also, the resort is OCEAN FRONT. The views of St John, Tortola, Jost Van Dyke and about 20 other islets will amaze you.
Things you need to know:
There is no rental car agency at P.P. Rent from the airport. If you're staying more than a couple of days rent a car. Taxis are very expensive.
The two restaurants at P.P. do not serve breakfast. Buy some breakfast and other snack items at the Marina Market in Red Hook. Believe me there is nothing like sitting on your balcony with your morning coffee. We ate brakfast there every morning (and drinks every night). If you must go out, then the breakfast at Molly Malones (Red Hook) is great. You can also go next door (Wyndum (sp) Resort) for breakfast. I was told last week that the vacant resort next door was just purchased by the Intercontinental Hotel chain. They are planning on a "soft opening" for May and a full opening in July.
There are 2 beaches at P.P. (really). Pineapple Beach (in front of the vacant resort) is a large beach, but needs a little life added which will come when the Intercontinental opens. Sugar Beach is a very small beach (about 60-70 feet wide) that is on property. This is a delighful secluded beach that practically no one goes to. From here you can just walk 10 yards to the right (around a couple of boulders) to the Wyndum beach, if you want a larger beach and motorized water sport items. Remember all beaches are free and every resort must give you access. I've never had a problem anywhere on St. Thomas. Also, if you go to the end of Pineapple Beach, turn right on the road and walk about 150 yards you'll reach Coki Beach (one of my favorites).
The P.P. property is very hilly (adds to the resort's character) and you will be required to walk short distances and probably up/down hills at times. But that works-off all the eating.
There are 3 pools at P.P. (recently renovated). The 2 restaurants (Fungi's and Agave) are very good.
There is a beautiful nature trail at P.P. that deserves some time, too.
Being an Ocean Front property there is maintenance going on all of the time (much like on a boat). So please excuse the little things like some painting going on or areas where paint is needed. You'll see this at the Marriott and Ritz, too.
Exercise room - just renovated and most of the equipment is new.
We purchased a unit here 2 years ago......if there were problems here I would not of put all the $$$ in my property that I have and visited the resort as many times as I have in the past 2 years.
IMHO the hill top units are the best for the view.
btw...... P.P. was 100% occupied during our visit...does that tell you something? The guest book in our unit has nothing but good things to say about P.P. One entry indicated that this was the 40th visit to P.P. by one of the guests.
If you need additional information send me a private message.
Enjoy your stay!

I forgot to mention - click on "view candid traveler photos" at the top. There are 20 pictures that Pt. Pleasant guests have provided. The reviews are also quite interesting as well, IMO.
Ginger:
Send me a P.M. with your e-mail address......I have pics of our unit.

Is this by the Renassance Grand hotel? I trust it is still operating- Would these villas be Absolute Paradise Villas? We are wanting to visit again in Feb. and hope all is still there. Thanks Denny
Denny:
The Renassance has been closed for about 1-1/2 years. The Intercontinental Hotel Chain just purchased the property.
Our "villas" are called Point Pleasant "Villas" Resort. I have never heard of Absolute Paradise Villas. Sorry
F.I.
Denny:
I just noticed an advertisement in the V.I. Daily News about Absolute Paradise Villas. They appear to be next to Point Pleasant and on the old Rennasance property grounds. I though these were called "Pineapple Villas". Perhaps there was a name change. Any locals with more than 2 years experience here know?
F.I.
Here is a web site I had bookmarked for Absolute Paradise Villas.
The condos on the grounds of the closed Grand Beach Resort are called "Pineapple Village" Absolute Paradise Villas is just one of the units within the whole condo complex.
The Pineapple Villas units have I think three different names. When we were staying at Point Pleasant, we walked over there and noticed that..one is also called Ablsolute Villas and there's a 3rd name that I don't remember. All the same units though.
We stayed at Point Pleasant and loved it. Unfortunately, it's not always possible to get a higher room on a corner. When we booked our stay, the only thing left available was a junior. That was ok, it was still fine and we still had a great time. The room was considered "garden view" (no ocean view rooms left) but we still had about a 1/2 ocean view. We actually liked the location of the unit.
We loved the nature trail and walked it almost every day. We especially loved Sugar Beach. We we always there alone, except for one time. Great snorkeling off Sugar Beach as well.
I have some pics, but not of the units, only of the grounds. I'll post a couple just so you can see. Sorry they are so big.
