Hi Everyone,

My name is Rob and I will be getting married on 10/15. Our honeymoon in ST. Thomas is 10/17 - 10/26.

My future Bride and I have never been on in the Virgin Islands before, but I want to make this trip Sooooo Special for her.

Does anyone have advice, recomendations or "must sees" or "don't waste our times" that you can suggest?

I am 33 and she is 27 and there isn't much as far as activities that we aren't willing to do. We Definately want to Snorkal, Jet Ski, and maybe Horseback ride on St. John's. Also we have our passports so we are up for a trip to the British Islands also.

If you can give me a "Virgin Islands for Dummies" reply I would greatly apprciate it.

So if you can give me any recommendations that can help me make this special for my Mrs. I would Thank You for ever!

Rob: First, congrats! Where are you staying? That will help with some recommendations. As for "Virgin Islands For Dummies," I would investigate the tool bar at the top of this page. Are you a low key or high energy duo? Can you sit on the beach and read for an afternoon, or do you feel like you have to be involved in activities?

Personally, I would be happy if they would ship all the jet skis back to Florida, so I won't be much help to you there, but...Do you have snorkeling experience? Do you dive? How about a nice day sail? Kayaking???

Rob:

Where do I begin? There is so much to see and do on any ONE island and you plan on visiting three. Just don't forget to relax and "soak it all in". If you have never experienced the beaches in USVI, you are in for a real treat.

St. John is only a 20 minute ferry ride from St. Thomas but they are totally different islands. St. Thomas is larger and much more populated than St. John. Because of this it a much more busy island than St. John with many more restaurants and nightlife hangouts. St. John is smaller island and significantly less populated. 3/4 of the island is a national park.

Some suggestions for St. Thomas:

Rent a car

Siteseeing - Mountain Top (World Famous Banana Daquiris'), Paradise Point, Drakes Seat, Coral World, etc.

Shopping - Charlotte Amalie

Beach Parties - Sapphire beach has a great beach party on Sunday's (I think)

Beaches - Magens Bay is a must see, Secret Harbor (great for snorkeling), and Sapphire Beach (beautiful). These are my favorites.

Some suggestions for St. John:

Rent a 4WD - even if its for one day. Explore the island, its beauty, and the numerous beaches. You may decide to do it again.

Shopping - Mongoose Junction

Beaches - North Shore beaches and a must see (Trunk, Cinnamon, Hawknest). And many many more beaches that provide pristine natural beauty, white sand beaches, tropical vegetation, and excellent snorkeling.

Snorkeling equipment - rent at Cruz Bay watersports for $10 a day

Bars and Restaurants - plenty of great places to eat but definately try Uncle Joes for inexpensive and awesome BBQ chicken and ribs. Go to Woody's for happy hour. The party spills onto the street.

MAN..... I could go on and on and on and on and on..... Ok you get the point. Congratulations and have a blast!

Plan a sunset dinner cruise. There are many that will provide food and drink. Check with the hotel you are staying with. There are several that leave from larger resorts or from Red Hook. Make sure you check out how many people the boat takes out and depending on your budget you may want a private cruise. I have never been to St. Thomas so I can't recommend one yet. I am planning a trip with my husband of 12 years and thought that would be something romantic and special. Best Wishes.

St. Thomas:

Randy's Bistro - wonderful nighttime restaurant (not outside but romantic-ask to sit in the wine room area)

Secret Harbour - restaurant w/awesome view & great snorkeling

Coki Beach - Great snorkeling on both right & left sides

Paradise Point - awesome view, great Bushwackers!

Coral World-don't know that I'd spend my time going there, especially if you're going to be snorkeling.

Shopping - Downtown (avoid when many ships in) & also Havensight & Al Cohen's Mall area.

Liquor - buy at KMart (2 locations)

Sunset - Definitely take the time to go to the Marriott out by the pool & watch the cruise ships sail slowly by - beautiful site plus a great view of the Charlotte Amalie harbor.

St John - DEFINTELY go at least for a day - drive around & see the wonderful views, snorkel if you have time (Hawksnest-easy to get in & out). Go over for dinner on the ferry & come back.

I'm sure there's lots more but just explore & congratulations!!

Rob,

Congratulations!! You made an excellent choice for your honeymoon. My husband & I discovered the islands this past April & will be returning next April. So, that pretty much tells you all!

Definately hit the Mountain Top for a Banana Daiquiri. They are awesome. Also, cute little place called Udder Delites next to Magen's Bay - awesome ice cream with a "little kick to them".

Also, highly recommended that you take a day to explore the British Virgin Islands. We took New Horizons II which left Sapphire Beach Marina in St. Thomas & went to The Baths in Virgin Gorda, stopped at Marina Cay for lunch, stopped at a really nice snorkeling spot & ended the trip with an unbelievable stop at White Bay Beach on Jost Van Dyke where we had the most incredible Painkiller at Soggy Dollar Bar. The beach was awesome & so much fun to people watch on that beach. This boat trip was one of the highlights of our trip!

Also, we went to St. John for a day. (FYI: Loved it so much that we are renting a villa for our next trip.) We took a taxi tour - which brought us to Bordeaux Mountain & to Annaberg Ruins & drove past the north shore beaches. When you arrive in Cruz Bay there are tons of taxi drivers who like to load up their trucks that they have converted into vans for sightseeing tours.

We were glad that we took a tour - it was a great introduction to the island. It even stopped at Cinnamon Beach for us to look around. We had already planned to spend the rest of the day at Cinnamon & the little stop confirmed our choice. We liked Cinnamon alot! It had a cute little restaurant right on the premises & also had changing rooms & restrooms. Beautiful non-crowded beach. For us, we were glad that we passed up Trunk for a special few hours at Cinnamon. (We are looking forward to checking out all of the other beautiful beaches on our next trip.)

You will have an awesome time!! Where are you staying??

Rent a boat and go to Peter Island and eat at Wille T's. It is a sailboat converted into a bar. It can get pretty wild. There is also a land restaurant/bar on Peter Island. The best snorkeling in the area may be the "Caves on Peter Island" located on the west end of Peter Island. Neat stuff. Then be sure to go to Jost Van Dyke. Definately go to St John. Don't just stay at the resort on St Thomas and not get out and do/see things. Rent a 4WD Jeep with A/C from "Dependable Car Rental" on STT. It is near the airport and they will pick you up when you arrive at no charge.

Good luck.

Thanks Everyone for the replies. We did much of the stuff that was suggested. Went to St.J and BVI (Baths)

Everything was good. The one thing that I want to point out is a Restaurant in Red Hook that was OUTSTANDING -

"The East End Cafe"

We ate out 10 nights and tried most of the suggestions that we received. The best BY FAR was the East End Cafe. Awesome Service, Great Atmosphere (very romantic) and EXCELLENT service. To any one that is going to go there and your are lucky enough to have CHED (spelled correctly Ched) as your server Tell him Rob and Regina from Michigan Say HI and Thank You.

Like I said before thanks to everyone for the suggestions
