Well its 19 degrees(feels like 4 with wind chill) and I'm dreaming of my vacation in July, my husband and I will be there for 9 nights, staying at the Westin, in part to celebrate his birthday. I had previoulsy posted a question regarding the rental of beach chairs. Thanks for all the replies.

This will be our first trip to St. John. We were married 12 years ago at the Frenchman's Reef on St. Thomas, but never left the island except for a trip to the Baths(on the LIMNOS) and a helicopter trip to a deserted(except for donkeys)island.

I would like to surprise my husband and rent a boat for the day(I would need a captain), to go crusing around, maybe stop at a few beach bars, etc. Any suggestions? I've read some posts aboout Jost isalnd and a bar called Foxy's, is it worth the trip? All suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Planning this trip is helping me survive this winter!!

Hello Tricia,

There are numerous chater boats to choose from (with captain... most also have lunch, open bar, snorkel gear). Take a look at http://www.sailvi.com and see if that's what you are looking for. Make sure to tell them its your hubby's birthday, see if they have any suggestions for making the day extra special.

Jost & Foxy's is worth the trip. Great place, fun bar!!

We have been to St.John about 10-11 times, Always stayed at Caneel Bay.(loved it) This July we are renting a villa for significantly less than what we spent at Caneel. 4 BR 2 Kitchens, pool, big deck, incredible views. To answer your questions yes it is worth renting a boat with a captian. (about $425 for a 26')The best operator is OceanRunner, in Cruz Bay. Be sure to ask them "how calm is it? I suggest goin to Norman Island and have lunch A the "Willie T" (Actual name the William Thornton) A 1916 lumber bark (boat) that is anchored in the bay there and has been converted into a restuarant by a pair of enterprising british guys. Try the Roti's but the burgers are good to. If you like to snorkel the is on the east end of the island are the "caves" (They aren't big or deep but a great place to snorkle and not far away there are three rocks known as the "indians" awsome snorkleing. Can be some current there though. On the way back stop by Foxy's on Jost Van Dyke for a drink. If Foxy is there (black guy with a guitar, it will be a memorable experience. If you rent from Oceanrunner's ask for Shey, also a private chef

Thanks, Wes. Definetly sounds like a gret idea. Do you know if Ocean Runner have a website?
