Hello,

I'm trying to plan a romantic trip with my girlfriend from 8/8-8/14. Both of us are very busy so I'm trying to make it really good. Going with St. Thomas since it seems to have more options. However being that she is very picky, I am a little hesitant to go strictly with reviews, etc.

She wants to be in nice accommodations, cottage style, right by any white sand beaches. I also hope not to be too far from town so we can shop, eat, etc. Should I rent a car or go by taxi since it's our first time?

Couldn't seem to find anything by her requests (and in our price range actually), so any nice beachfront hotel recommendations would be appreciated.

Thank you.

we have a beautiful condo right on Sapphire Beach for rent. Look up Sapphire Beach and Crystal Cove and you will see that it the best beach on STT. You can look out over St. John, the BVI and sit under the ahe trees and have a drik or just look out over the views.

PM me if interested.

sunkao13,
The question is this: What is more important, being on the water in more of a public setting, or staying in a cottage with an ocean view, that has a nice pool in a peaceful, tranquil setting? Ask her! Then take it from there!

Ck out: http://www.mclaughlinanderson.com/ There are 3 one bedroom places there to choose from. Tho I manage one of them, I do not ever recommend my own place! I like to offer options instead!

If being on the beach is most required, then Sapphire is great as well as Secret Harbor. There are many people here on the forum that can help on all of the choices! (tu)
Happy Planning!

We have stayed in a beachfront unit at Secret Harbour and enjoyed every minute. We had a studio and it was very private and half the time it felt like we had the beach to ourselves. The snorkeling is good right off the beach, close to Red Hook if you'd like to go out to dinner or take the ferry to St. John. It was great to walk right down from our condo and be on the beach. Staff were all very helpful. We loved the Blue Moon Cafe for a nice dinner. We also had drinks, breakfast and snacks from the beach bar type restaurant. We bought groceries and kept them in our room too for lunch. I was so relaxed for the time we were there and highly recommend it!

Good luck in choosing your vacation!
Nicolle

Sun - True beahcfront villas are few and far between on all thee islands. I think that St. Croix may have more than the other two islands where high views are the thing. In April we stayed in a very romantic small villa on St. Croix - Island Time. It had its own slice of beachfront, complete with a hammock. it was very reasonably priced and had a killer pool, was very private and had triple views - yacht club bay, the reef, and Buck Island. Here's a link to my review of the villa (the rest of my St. Croix trip reviews are on this site as well if you are inetrested in hearing about St. Croix - lots of pix). You can click on the pix to enlarge them:

We also had about 5 more beaches within 10 minutes dirving and, being east end, had easy access to lots of good restuarants.

On St. Thomas, Rockworks and Stone Cottage are also lovely villas, with gorgeous high views of the north shore.

Thanks for all your suggestions. Looks like I will be looking for something nice and not too pricey on Sapphire Beach.

Just something to think about

You are shooting for August - The higher you go up the greater views and BREEZES.

Have you looked at the Point Pleasant Resort?

Special summer rates are available.

We stayed at St. Somewhere in Peterborg thru Mcglaughlin Anderson last April that Sherri was talking about and she was our greeter that met us at the airport and took us to our villa over looking Megan's bay and it was amazing. Sherri was wonderful!! It is a short drive to "town", but not too bad, unless it's after dark, then it got a little tricky, for us anyway. A private pool was very nice, but there are so many beaches to visit that we didn't use it much. And to be honest, as great as it was overlooking one of the most famous beaches, I had rather be on the other side of the island overlooking Charlotte Amalie, or on St John overlooking Cruz bay, just for the activity of Cruise boats and sail boats coming in and out and the lights of the city and close enough to drive at night and not worry about having to travel back to villa too far away. I love romance and non-seclusion all at once.

You should definitely get a car. Driving on the left is easy to get use to and will give you alot of freedom. Everyone is different but I would suggest seeing some of the beaches on the island and taking a day or two to see St. John. My wife and I took our first trip to St. Thomas years ago and I still remember how romantic it was. We took the car ferry to St. John one day and saw Trunk Bay and Hawksnest beach. We also parked at Red Hook one night and took the people ferry over and had Supper. We ate at RedHook several nights also. Have fun and ask as many questions as you need before you go.
