Hello again!
I have an eleven year old that is VERY picky!! I am curious if there are any fast food places on STT like Pizza Hut, Burger King, ect... It isnt that big of deal but I would like to prepare him to learn to eat different things. Thanks

If you're near Red Hook...you have subway and Molly Malones for some chicken fingers and fries. There's also a pizza place right there and the marina market. Even Duffy's have burgers and chicken. If you have a kitchen you can buy some P&J, white bread and you're all set. I have a 28 year old daughter and she's still a picky eater.

Do you have a villa?

Your not alone, LMAO!! I have a 9 year old that is only eating chicken fingers, pizza, toast, cereal, noodles, and only a few other things. And hes in perfect shape. So yeah when were in STJ, we often are always at the same places to eat. I keep wondering when he will grow out of this too.

Yea, I keep thinking the same thing. My youngest boy (soon to be 12) who is tall and skinny will only eat a few things so I was worried, but my oldest (soon to be 15) is like Mikey (sp?) and will eat anything (almost) he is over 200lbs and is over 6 Ft. (he plays football for middle school and is the largest boy there!!) I am not worried about him!! haha Glad to hear I am not the only one with this problem

Places to eat for a picky teen? Anywhere that you would enjoy the food. The picky teen will either eat what they can there or go hungry. Why cater to a picky eater? Aren't you just enabling the behavior?
I would just go to any of the great restaurants that abound on STT and enjoy yourselves.

Amen, Ronnie and Jane.....mama gave us 2 foods to dislike that we did not have to eat under any circumstances (mine were beets and English peas)....past that, you ate what was served or you didn't eat. I did the same thing with my boys - and now at 27 and 30, they will eat anything that doesn't eat them first.

Well, that's pretty OT for a vacation board, but there ARE plenty of what I would consider snack food places on STT with chicken fingers and nachos and stuff like that - but it's a shame you would miss some of the local cuisine because of the child....stuff a Subway sandwich down his face if you must and keep going to the next great restaraunt and try to ignore the sighs and eye rolls.

By the way - it only gets worse. They will be human again at 23. Until then I've decided they should be locked in a 55 gallon drum and fed with a straw....sure would make the teenage years easier. Give them a can opener on their 21st birthday - it will take them 2 years to get out, and they will be something resembling the human race. 🙂

Oh my. Some of you want her to take her child on a VACATION and make the 11 yr old child go hungry becuase now is the time to start developing a sophisticated palate?

Barbara Dean, most food in the VI isn't exotic anyway. There will be basic foods on the menu almost everywhere you go - chicken fingers, pizza, sandwiches, pasta etc. I only wish there we more exotic options, but there aren't.

It's not exactly a sophisticated palate...most of the food on STT is fairly middle of the road and mainstream. My point was that the more you indulge a habit like that, the more it becomes a control issue. It is not just the child's vacation, what about teaching the child to be a team player etc etc. What about teaching the child flexibility etc.
I would have thought that a break in the usual family dynamics and routine, such as a vacation would be an ideal situation to stretch boundaries and limits.
Stop press. They don't go hungry for long!!!!

I have a picky eater at 28, but one thing i hate, especially on vacation is to see mothers or fathers insisting that their children eat what they have on their plate. If they don't want to eat, then I don't think they should. I don't want to sit next to a beautiful child crying their eyes out because they're beging forced to eat anything.

If all else fails, get them some crackers, or some buttered bread. They will not starve. Makes it easier on everybody.

After the third day they will eat anything. And no, Blu, I don't think this is a good time to refine their palates.....but I also know you don't know if you like something until you've tried it....now's a great time to break out of the routine - "no, I am so sorry we are not eating at Wendy's for the third day in a row, but this is OUR vacation, WE are paying for it, and WE get to call the shots".....after all, it is the truth....and keep the PBJ at the hotel in case they decide that anything you pick is inedible. It's very nutritious.

Barbara...i was just wondering where you're staying. Do they have a refrigerater there? If they do, then I would pack a small cooler with some of his favorite things. We brought P&J, chicken, cheese, hamburgers, etc. It worked out great instead of us going out shopping all the time. We had 5 20 something's with us and all they did was eat. At least we had it right there in our fridge for them.
