Hello.
My fiance and I will be arriving on STT on 5/1 and staying on STJ.
We will be married 5/3 on STJ. Someone suggested that when we arrive, we catch a taxi at the STT airport and take it to the Territorial Court on STT to pick up our required marriage license (have the taxi wait for us), then head for the ferry to STJ.
Any advice on taxis from the airport to the Court? How about dealing with the Territorial Court itself? We will be sending in our marriage application shortly. On a recent phone call to the court, they were very curt with me, but I guess no more curt than you'd find at any DMV or other government/state office.
Thanks so much,
Wendy
Wendy,
We recently got married on St. John(2/14/06) and when we arrived in St. Thomas we went to the courthouse and it was very simple and smooth. The clerk had us confirm our information that we'd previously mailed in, raised our right hands and swore to the information, she took a bit more info such as the minister's name etc. and we were in and out of there in 10 minutes.
Once you get off the plane in St. Thomas there are tons of taxis waiting outside at the taxi stand, grab one of them and have them take you to the courthouse. Once you get out of the courthouse again you'll find taxi's everywhere. I wouldn't recommend having one wait for you as I imagine it would be costly and with so many taxis you shouldn't have a problem getting another one to take you to the ferry. The ferry from the airport to the courthouse will be a bit longer of a ride and from the courthouse to the ferry you aren't very far.
My only concern would be your arrival time to St. Thomas! The courthouse closes at 5pm and not a second later. What time are you arriving in St. Thomas?
We are arriving in STT @2:30. That should give us time.
THANK YOU for the info!!
Arriving at 2:30 should give you plenty of time to get from the airport to the courthouse. Good luck and congrats.
