Just came back from 11 days in STT...

Found a great little spot near Smith Bay (Coki Beach, Sapphire Beach Resort, East End) named Picasso's. The owners were great and they have all kinds of drinks...alcohol, coffee, energy drinks, fruity drinks...as well as some food and slot machines.

Just thought I would let everyone know to try and stop by if your over on the East End.

We were there, too.

It's a great place.

The couple that owns the place are from New Jersey.

Smith Bay.

Come down Cassi Hill heading towards Red Hook.....Picaso's will be on your right. Look for the "Grand Opening" sign.

Picasso's is great! We ate breakfast there almost every morning for 2 weeks. I't mainly a coffee shop that serves specific items daily. They have fabulous quiches that they serve in the morning. The coffee is great! They have a daily lunch special that they serve, we were there the day that they had italian sausage sandwiches with roasted peppers and onions, yummy. Our friends that were staying at our unit would usually go there in the evenings to watch sports on their TV. Very friendly nice people.

They also have wireless internet.

Billd,

I've personally never had a problem with any of the businesses in Smith Bay. In addition to Picasso's, I also go to Jerry's bakery for fresh baked bread, scones and pineapple tarts to die for. They have two fruit stands where the ladies are always very polite and helpful, if they have a vegetable or a fruit that I'm not familiar with, they will usually give me a sample and or instructions on how to cook or prepare it. My son was in desperate need of a haircut, so I brought him into the barber shop. I think that they were somewhat amused to see my son with his fine blond hair, but they were very accomodating and did a pretty good job considering I don't think that they had a scissors in the shop. They used an electric trimmer and it turned out fine. My son said it was the most entertaining haircut that he had ever had. They had a pool table in the middle of the shop and locals were continually coming and going to shoot a game. Last but not least, don't forget Romano's, in my opinion it is the best Italian food on the island.

With that said, Smith Bay is not a place that I would linger around at night. People congregate out in the streets on weekends and sometimes the local outdoor basketball court will be very busy with people out for the evening drinking and playing loud music. For the most part, I find that common courtesy and good judgement go a long way on island. I've also found that after returning to the same place several times the locals will warm up to you. I've gotten to know quite a few of the vendors and hair braiders on Coki, It's nice to be on a first name basis with so many wonderful people who seem to genuinely be glad to see me and my family.

We stayed at Saphire for the week and found Picaso's halfway through. It was a lifesaver and really got our vacation started off right each morning. We even went back at night to watch some of the basketball games and enjoy the inexpensive beers and drinks. Fun people working there really made our vacation special. Thank you
