Lex, recently posted a very interesting web site from the St John Historical Society. The photos were
amazing from years ago. I thought it would be very interesting and fun if readers on this forum posted their favorite photos from years past, while they were visiting or residing on island.

I was recently going through my parents' boxes of old photos and came across a ton of STT/STJ photos from the early 60s. I'll try to scan them and upload them soon. Everything looks completely different!

I promise! I should be able to scan them this coming weekend. They're all on those old, thick Polaroid backings. I just came across them last week while looking for some other photos.

Funniest this is that my parents were just married in most of these photos...and they moved to STT just after their wedding (they were 25 and 28)....so you can imagine how DRUNK and FUN all of the photos are. And, in each photo, there are different visitors from the States - in various states of sobriety. It was like the entire group of family and friends visited in the first year.....at different times and also collectively.

It'l be fun to pull it all together and to share with all of you VI lovers.

Hi...
Just happened to find this site and all these interesting messages and feedbacks!
I have lived on St. John for 25 years.
Created and owned a restaurant called "Luscious Licks" where Margurita Phil's is now.
I am very active in our Community; on 2 Boards and write for The Tradewinds.
There are LOTS of gret things going on here to preserve our enironment...please know that!
Though we have crime-it is STILL very safe here. With this new Governor-things will get better in time.
I would be very interested in your photos as well...bet us old times...know people in them!
Looking forward to seeing them.
Thanks to all for coming to St. John! Sincerely, Bonny.

Bonny, when did you live on STJ?

Bet you know my family! Samuels - Pastory Gardens....

Lots of love here from the old timers! I still owe this forum some pics. Have them all collected- just need to scan now.

Hi-
Yes-I know quite a few Samuels here on St. John...a very well respected native family.
You must be related to Ray Samuels-who is quite a famous sculpture...in fact, one of his works was a giant carved Rasta head-as part of the Virgin Island National Park posters in the 70's. He still has an authentic and charming WI home in Pastory! I know many friends through the years who have rented it. It always feels like a visit to the past when I am there.
Ray now lives on Tortola however he comes back to St. John regularly. Everyone is always happy to see him. He is always a pleasure to talk with...full of personality and very intelligent man. He has had such a full and multi-layered life experience-between the St. John experiences to his years as an artist in New York. He still "fills his soul" with "Limin' and talk" at Nature's Nook with all of the Rasta crowd as they exchange stories about the changes here.
You would be interested in knowing that at Rotary this week-David Knight-our local Historian presented a "look at St. John through the years" from sketches and drawings through the Danish days-to the first pictures of St. John. I could "feel" St. John's spirit in his photos ....yes-she does have a spirit...our Island.
I believe that more than your "fellow-VINOW friends" would love to peek at these photos. Don't forget about them! They have so many stories to tell...bet I might know a few people in them as well.
Peace and Love-Bonny.

Not too historical but nevertheless, one of my favorites from the mid-90's. I think a fire wiped out Grump's shortly after this trip.

Where was Grumpy's? - ok,Blu, I am bad with street names but here goes: Off the ferry, take a right on the first street, past the Beach Bar, left at the next street, right at the next street and walk down to Grumpy's. I think that's the same street where the Pink Papaya started. Trying to think what is there now but I am drawing a blank.
