We're in the Frenchman's Bay area and have been having trouble with the phone line for about a week now. Wondered if anyone else is experiencing bad connections. When we do actually get online, we're usually bumped off within a few minutes. The line connection is very crackly.

Someone told me that a crackling line usually meant moisture in the lines. I started to pay attention and, sure enough, it usually happened when it was rainy or very high humidity.

Please be sure to call 912 to report your difficulty from a land line. They do look for patterns. I had one big crackling that was always happening when it rained, and crossed lines and buzzes, too. After enough calls from me and perhaps others in the area, they located the faulty piece of equipment and we saw their truck in the neighborhood for several days, working, and then the problems were gone. For a very long time.

Then it came back, I reported it, and this time they were able to take care of it very quickly. I now have high speed internet due to having been unable to connect for the first long episode, but I use my dialup whenever my wireless high speed goes down and I hardly ever hear the crackling any more.

We learn over time that we must continue to apply objective attention to get the things we want. Becoming frustrated, blowing up at employees, or giving up are some options, but over the years, I have learned to pick my battles. Those things I am unable to make happen immediately, I put to the side while seeking opportunities to revisit at a later time. For those things you never get, I must echo STT Resident, "welcome to the islands!" --- it's all good.

Another good t'ing is to get off dial-up if you can. I'm ecstatic since Choice Communications finally put up a tower in my "dead 'hood" so that I now enjoy fast and reliable internet at a MOST reasonable price. I believe Trade who posts here is in the FB area and recently went with Innovative DSL while the Sprint service which is available almost everywhere is, although more expensive, very highly recommended. Cheers and good luck!
