Hi All,

My husband and I are planning on visiting St John's for the first time this year and want to rent Perelandra. Any more info on it would be appreciated. It is so difficult choosing a villa but everyone seems to like this one. Can you walk to town, shops etc from the villa?

Is there anything the villa doesn't have that I may need to bring such as nice wine glasses or coffee grinder etc. ?

Hi naturegirl (love that moniker!),

I noticed you had asked this under the "villa for 4" topic as well but thought it would be easier for you to find it under here.

When we were there a few weeks ago, Perelandra had a small starbucks coffeemaker & a separate little coffee grinder (which we really appreciated since we love the "kiss of the jumby" coffee beans from St. John Spice--fresh ground & made coffee, sipped from the deck while looking over that view is the way I'm going to wake up EVERY day when I'm in heaven :-)!

Anyway, we have always found the villa very well-stocked with just about anything we need. Well-equipped kitchen BUT you sometimes have to look in odd places for things (e.g. blender was under the sink & grinder was mixed up with a bunch of other things in the 'pots & pans' cabinet).

As far as wine glasses, Perelandra had plenty of glasses & dishes etc but I think all the "glassware" was actually high-quality "plasticware." The dishes & coffeecups are china but I don't think there's much glassware. Probably because of the tile floors & pool. There were some glass martini glasses, now that I think of it. Anyway, we were perfectly happy with the items we had there. DK if you really want to pack glassware to bring. Also now remember a couple champagne flutes (plastic but very nice; I like champagne--even put it in a paper cup for me & I'm happy so we may be coming from very different perspectives :-))

Usually plenty of spices for cooking, as well as condiments in fridge but those 2 items are kind of variable in what you find, dependent on previous occupants. Plenty of beach chairs, towels, coolers, etc. Really ample supplies of everything.

Let me know if you have any others questions; happy to answer what I can (triggers my memories which kind of bring me back there--much better there than here right now--ugh I HATE winter and LOVE St. John)--

Suzie

Naturegirl,
There is a pretty cool "Villa Video" of Perelandra at www.on-stjohn.com. It doesn't help with the wine glasses and the coffee grinder questions but it shows the villa itself pretty nicely.

Thanks Suzie Snorkeler and StJohnRuth,

I did find the video and it was great. Hopefully all of them will start making video's although there is something to be said for being pleasantly surprised. We decided on the villa and will be going in November. I must say of all the places (Yucatan, Play del Carmen, St Lucia etc) we were thinking of going, St John seemed to have the most positive, even glowing reviews. We are soooooo excited. I am getting very addicted to this board though and I love the trip reports. Thank you to everyone that contributes and I am looking forward to reading this board all year and have a feeling this won't be my last trip to ST John.

Suzie, how is the location of Perelandra, did you spend a lot of time at the villa?

Hi again naturegirl!

We loved the location of Perelandra. We're definitely sunset people (sunrises would be totally lost on me 🙂 and it gets wonderful sunsets all year long. It's high enough up the hillside/mountainside, that breezes were nice and we were never bothered by no-see-ums or anything. It's very close to grocery shopping & town (Cruz Bay where all of our favorite restaurants are). Since it always seemed we were forgetting something, I swear it seemed like we stopped at Starfish or Pine Peace everyday--but 'no problem mon' because it was just a couple minutes away. About 10 minutes to the beaches so really a great location.

We did spend quite a bit of time at the villa. We had breakfast on the deck every morning while we decided the MAJOR question of the day: what beach should we go to today? Sometimes one of us would take a bit of time getting ready and invariably the other one would end up lazing out by the pool or reading a book on the deck & then end up asking, 'do we have to leave? let's just stay around here.' But the beaches did beckon. We were there for 8 nights so planned to eat 4 meals in & 4 meals out but ended up eating 5 meals in because it was just nice to laze around, watch the sunsets, & have a nice relaxed meal on the deck under the stars with our favorite music playing in the background.

Actually, the last night, and 1 of our favorite meals, was a tip we had gotten either from the guest book or perhaps on one of the forums: we ordered lobster dinners to go from Lime Inn & ate them on the deck at Perelandra; perfect. After dinner, we would sometimes take an evening swim or just laze around watching tv, videos, or reading. Really relaxing.

Enjoy your time there! (I'm getting jealous 🙂
