Gang - what is the word on passports when going to USVI to BVI and back? I tried to schedule the "2 week expedite" appointment for a passport, but the only available appointments are beyond my travel date. This, my 8 yr old will not have a passport for this trip. Are we stuck in the USVI? (sooooo bummed). I hope this helps others to know that the wait for passports is not what it used to be. Get one early - you cannot rely on the expedite process!
Uh huh, MG - a sure case of PWI - Posting While Intoxicated. You'll read this in the morning and beg Islander to delete it. ha ha (BEEN THERE)
Happy 55th Birthday to Mountaineer Boy!

My 40th is in May, and I keep telling Mr. Richmond that I want to go back to STT. He's trying to force me into going to Mexico *barf*
MG & Blu, any creamy alcoholic beverage makes me sick, can I join the club but bring wine? *hic*
Richmond, wine is completely acceptable in the club. I'm sure MG will agree - whenever she wakes up 🙂 (shhhhh)
Stu Scott.....the "Tunnel"? 😉

The application is available online.
I was wondering how I missed separating the two phases of the WHTI, and it is because in the beginning, there was no differentiation between air and sea. I was going through my old emails on the subject and scratching my head, so I started trolling the web.
There is a US Embassy@Fiji page that references the previous timeline at:
http://suva.usembassy.gov/western_hemisphere_travel_initiative_whti.html: The WHTI proposes a phased approach to implementation. The document requirement would be effective on January 8, 2007 for air and sea travel and on January 1, 2008 for land borders.
Honestly, I think that everyone attempted to remove all previous versions of the timeline lest confusion reign, so I am not sure why this article remains online.
See this old article at the Travel Industry Association's web site:
http://www.tia.org/govtaffairs/legislative_WHTI.html
Of particular import is the following passage:
The Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative would require all travelers, including U.S. citizens, to and from the Americas, the Caribbean, and Bermuda to have a passport or other accepted document that establishes identity and citizenship to enter or re-enter the United States.
The current proposal would roll out WHTI in two phases, with the timeline as follows:
December 31, 2006 – Requirement applied to all air and sea travel to or from Canada, Mexico, Central and South America, the Caribbean and Bermuda.
December 31, 2007 – Requirement extended to all land border crossings with Canada and Mexico.
Current Status
The WHTI proposal was introduced by the Departments of State and Homeland Security in early April 2005, and originally included a three-part phase-in. This was subsequently reduced to the two-part phase-in referenced above. The Travel Industry Association of America (TIA) and the Travel Business Roundtable (TBR), Government Affairs Strategic Partners, issued a joint comment in response to an Advanced Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (ANPRM). Many other organizations within travel and tourism, and the business community in general, also filed comments that offered recommendations.
This was back before they made it clear that U.S. territories are exempt, although carriers are obviously free to set their own policies.
This dead horse is finding the strength or hopefully its last whinny, but it really bugged me that I seemed to miss such an important piece of info! I thank you for you time, if you saw fit to spare it...
