Hi All - Looking for any information regarding Parret Bay, the portion of Reef Bay closest to Fish Bay area. I know this beach can be a bit rough, but I guess my question would be how rough? Comparable to northeast US beaches? Would this beach be okay for small kids who tend to just play at the edge of the water - or is the bottom covered in sea urchins, rocks and sharp coral? Probably wouldn't be looking to spend full days there but want to know if it's viable for a few hours at a time. Also, how is the drive to this area - I think it would be Marina Drive to Reef Bay Rd. Is a major portion of this unpaved? Thank you all in advance for any info.

First, the road is paved. You should know that the trailhead and trail from the road down to the beach is steep and can be tricky when wet or dark. There is a rope and "steps" to aid in your descent and ascent. Last time we stayed in the area there was construction in the immediate neighborhood where you park at the trailhead.
Second, the entry into the water is rocky, shallow and everytime we visited it was heavily populated with urchins. If not for the urchins I would consider it a fine place for small kids to play if they had water shoes on.
The surf was not to rough but at least once we have seen surfers waiting for waves to break out off the beach. This is the only place I have see surfing activity on the island.

Thanks - appreciate your response. It sounds like Little Reef Bay, to the east of Parrot, is better for swimming. Any thoughts, have you been? How long of a walk down the shore is it from Parrot?
