I have seen mentioned that some of the car rental agencies allow you to park in their lots while downtown if you rent from them. I would like to know how big of a problem it is to find parking and is there a particular time it is worse?
I have narrowed down our Jeep rental to either L&L or C&C. One offers parking, the other doesn't. Prices are the same and they both pick you up and drop you off at the ferry dock although with C&C I believe you have to put a deposit down. Not really that big a deal, I was just wondering mostly about the parking issue downtown. Thanks!
Parking is not impossible but be patient and prepared to walk several blocks from where you park. If you park in C & C, you will need to walk some anyway, but you don't have to drive around alot to find something.
We always rent from Conrad Sutton. He doesn't pick you up, but it is a short walk from the ferry. If you are renting a villa, the company will drop you off where ever you are renting your car from. I highly suggest renting from a place that lets you park in their lot. We have been going down twice a year for about 10 years, and I wouldn't do it any other way. It's not impossible to find a spot, but it might take you awhile. Honestly, when I read the title of your post, I laughed out loud. I just find it easier to rent from a company that will let you park in their lot, and you don't have to search and search for a spot. You will probably have to walk no matter where you park, becuase once you find a spot, you would rather walk a couple of blocks than to try and find another one.
One of the best places to park in Cruz Bay is BEHIND Mongoose Junction. Sure it's at the far end of town, but really, at most it's only a few block anywhere. We've never had a single problem finding a spot there.
BTW, we first started coming to STJ about 8 years ago and all the talk was of the "planned, new" parking garage in Cruz Bay. As far as we can tell, it's still not even had ground broken.
Enjoy your trip.

If you have been to Mongoose Junction lately you will have noticed the very explicit signs limiting your parking there to the time that you expect to spend there. I would no longer want to risk being towed from there. Parking is tight in town and the public lot near customs has a 45 minute limit. You can not park there and go over to St. Thomas. Not exactly a bad idea but it also doesn't give you time to lunch in town or shop. There are additional parking spaces near the tennis courts with no limit. If I had to rent a car it would be from someone who allowed parking in their lot.
