We have heard parking is difficult to find in Charlotte Amalie and taxi's get most of those spots. Is this true? Can any suggest an all day parking lot for us when we visit Charlotte Amalie?

There is a parking lot between the courthouse and the fort...that would be the best place to leave it all day...

Marty,
You mean the paid parking lot? When I have to park to go in the court house, it is always full!

Yeah, the paid lot...I've always found parking there...I wonder why your luck is different? Of course, it'll be a little tighter when Carnival gets going!

Thanks for the help! On St. Thomas, is a 4-wheel drive a good idea or doesn't it matter?

You won't need it unless you are visiting someone's house that has a bad driveway...or going down to Nelteberg Beach...I have a front wheel drive car and I've never needed 4WD...been here over ten years...

From Water Island, we went to STT for a Home Depot, Big Kmart, Cost-U-Less.....day trip for the 100th time. I was complaining because we always come over to STT and only do that stuff which I consider WORK and NO FUN. And, ok.....I was whining a lot and finally the hubby agreed that we could take a little "tour" just to make the trip interesting. I misread the map or something and we took a turn and ended up in Estate Dorthea....oh man! We needed a 4x4 for that......and I had a lot of "I'm so sorry" to the husband. But, it was INTERESTING! 🙂

Where were you in Dorthea? I've been all the way down to the water and it was fine....

Maybe it wasn't Dorothea, our roads are pretty darn good in fact! Maybe Carat Bay? or Sorghenfri (forgive spelling)?

Fl Barrier Islander,
Glad you had at least an interesting experiance! 🙂

ok. I dunno where we were exactly.....we toured around the West End until the hubby said "we're going to far out of our way!" Then, under pressure from the husband, I was flustered and directed a turn to the right which looked like a road that would get us directly over to the area we needed to be heading towards HD. All I know is the road to the right....turned into "not really" a road at all but a path with deep craters, giant rocks........and I did see a sign that said Estate Dorthea. It's a good thing the rental car company didn't get out the mirror-on-a-stick and look at the undercarriage of the car when we returned it! And you know.......it WAS interesting and exciting and I would take the road less traveled any time!
