My husband and I would like to hang out at SJ for the 4th and enjoy the parade and fireworks, but will it be too dangerous for us seeing we will need to catch the ferry back to redhook and then get back to the hotel? We will be traveling around by taxi.

Not sure what you mean by 'dangerous'.

If you mean you might miss the ferry, I believe they run fairly late that night because of the festivities. You should check for the 'last boat out' time when taking the trip over to STJ to make sure.

If you mean getting a taxi from the ferry that late, I believe they will be waiting for the last ferry anyway.

I doubt you are worried about getting hit by fireworks and I hope the latest postings on the recent crime events have not made you shy away from experiencing what the islands have to offer.

It's so safe it's disgusting. This middle aged guy and his wife have no trouble hanging around the festival village even when it gets very crowded.

Even during the parade it's very safe. The biggest danger you might have is getting hit by a tractor trailer going 5 miles per hour. Or even sitting below me when I fall down.

It is NOT dangerous and not sure where that would even be a consideration.

Thanks for the scoop. By "safe" I just meant traveling late in the evening from lets say redhook back to our hote. I have been reading this board and wow the information I have obtained is the greatest, but some comments have mentioned one safety measure, don't be out late. So, I wasn't sure how to define "late". My husband and I are ages 37 & 44 and usually in bed by 10:30 at night, but we might want to splurge and stay up till 11:00! Thanks to everyone on this board for all of the valuable information. We leave Tues.,(28th) and I know where and what I want to do because of this board!

We come into town on July 3rd and are there until the 9th. I cant wait to see the fireworks display, something new for a change. Here you have to deal with people, traffic for hours, etc. Ill be soo glad to go and just relax. This is my 3rd trip to St John and everytime Ive been there its been nothing but nice and safe. Hope everyone has a nice holiday!!

Come over and watch the fireworks and enjoy the last day on July 4th. Best place to watch the fireworks....Gallows, but they usually keep lots of folks from entering. Except us, since we'll be there bbq'ing and drinking that evening.

Will most of you be on STJ or STT?

I'll make the steaks....someone make the hush puppies....somebody make the salad....somebody make the potato salad....someone bring the Don Lopez Coconut stuff, pineapple juice, orange juice, cinnamon, dark rum for painkillers. Oh, and don't forget the pie and ice cream.

Then we'll all go outside and watch the fireworks.

Just bring food.

I'm offiering a place......the condo we're staying at, at Gallows. But I warn you, no food and I'll strong arm you off the premises. We know security, so if you can't bring something that will enhance my wife's and mine fourth of July, stay away, LOL

🙂

Actually, RonnieUSVI can remember some good hushpuppies from a couple of years ago. Unfortunately, those folks won't be there.

I'm up for that! See that I started a thread.

I can bring rum (staying at Maho - no cooking) and drink fixings.

Were staying at the Westin, a get together sounds great. No other way to have a good time. Let me know the plans when they are together. Were renting a jeep to cut back on taxi costs so we will be all over.

Baldy, huh. Isn't that like the pot calling the kettle back. An email is on the way.....wouldn't want to have to trip over you while I'm picking up my bags, LOL

For all of you who want to watch the parade and hang with Ronnie and me, we'll be at our usual spot just left of Morgan's. Bring lots of water, cuz it gets hot.

That's if Ronnie doesn't have obligations, which with him can always come up at the last minute, LOL
