For those of you that bring down frozen foods, do you use dry ice? And if so, is that okay with security? Or do you use just ice packs?

Just ice packs , frozen bottles of water and 1 frozen carton of juice- that should do it.

Hi,
We were in St John in June and took frozen foods with us, meats, chicken and what not. We froze everything for a few days, took the cooler and put it in a chest freezer also for a few a few days. Packed everything in the cooler the day before and put back in chest freezer. We left at 2:00 p.m. on a Sat and arrived at out villa on Sun at 4:30 p.m. No problems everything was still frozen just like when we left. We did bring it into our hotel room on sat night rather that leave it in the hot car overnight. Put bungee cords on it until we got to the airport not knowing if it would be checked, and it wasn't, then we had them tape it with their tape for the trip. The most important thing it to not open it at all once it leaves your house.

We pack the cooler every year, coming all the way from San Diego...and don't stress a bit. Freeze your meat in large groups (our largest is a 5lb pack of ground beef from costco...the rest are small 2 packs of chicken breasts) Wrap all of it in a towel to lock in the cold, stick it in the ice chest and call it a day. You don't need to go through a bunch of steps to pack it. Just freeze, wrap, and pack. We freeze our cheese, too. Our food is always still frozen 24 hours later.

heck we just check them through in a soft sided cooler with a couple of frozen bottles of water on bottom, all frozen with a towel on top

Put cheese in there also, but would never freeze cheese.

have seen lots of people recommending techni-ice for coolers and they thought it was great. Found a link @ http://www.amazon.com/Techni-HDR-Reusable-Packs-Sheets/dp/B000LKWCCS. I use newspaper as an insulator and wrap things with it and then just stick it in the cooler. If you want to use dry ice, altho it is really not necessary, be sure to check with your airline since many limit or do not allow it.
