DW and I will be staying on STT first week of Oct and renting a car from AVIS. We're looking forward to at least one day trip to STJ, taking the rented car over on the car barge.

One concern we have is the possibility of missing the last barge back to STT that day. But another thought is that we just might like to take in a second day, the next day, on STJ.

So we're wondering if there is a safe place for parking and leaving the rented car overnight on STJ, allowing us to take the ferry back and forth to our STT hotel that first night and coming back to STJ the next day to pick up the rented car??

If we asked AVIS, no doubt they would emphasize that we'd be held responsible should the rented car be subject to any kind of vandalism or damage to the car from being left on STJ, but we'd like opinions/suggestion as to:

1) Is it doable/practical -- suggested parking lot(s), if so? and 2) How risky might might it be?

Slimman's parking in downtown Cruz Bay offers overnight parking. Having said that, I have only observed but not parked there overnight. It is fenced in and appears secure. Another idea is to leave it at the Westin overnight - they have Security and in my experience Westin does not issue parking passes/hangers to guests. But you didn't get that last tip from me *L* Good luck, I'm sure you'll get some other/better tips.

I like to park along the road to the National Park Visitors' Center, directly across from Mongoose Junction. There are spots on the road, but look up and watch for coconuts. There have been a few times when, ahem, the taxi ride was a good idea.

Cheers, RickG

You can park at the DMV for free. It is next to the tennis courts, across from the police station. Slimman's is only partially gated, but they do offer overnight parking for a fee ($25?). If I had to choose between the two, I'd go with DMV. It is a little out of town, but it also isn't right next to a bar (like Slimman's). I've parked overnight there before without any trouble.

Want to thank each of you for inputs. Sounds like a couple of options should we decide on it, which is encouraging.

Guess we can get a taxi back to the ferry from either parking location??? Probably money-wise taking taxi back to hotel and back the next day might work out to be comparable to paying twice for the car barge for going to STJ two days, huh??

I'm sure it will all fall into place once we get there and feel our way with the setup there. Thanks again.

ORRRRRRRRRRRRR think about this. Can you find a reasonable place to spend one night on STJ? After all you have to (1) pay a taxi from parking on STJ to ferry, (2) pay for ferry to STT, (3) pay for taxi to hotel on STT, (4) pay for taxi from hotel in STT to ferry, (5) pay for ferry to STJ (6) pay for taxi to parking area on STJ.

Slimmman's lot is about a 1 minute walk to the ferry dock and the DMV is less than a 5 minute walk to the ferry dock. You won't need a taxi 🙂
