Hi All:
We got back from St. Thomas a few days ago. What a great vacation!! Some comments.
Lodging. We stayed at Sapphire Beach: Very nice. Because it was not full, they put us in a beachfront studio instead of the marina view. We walked right from our sliding glass door to a brick patio to the beach!!! It was beautiful during the day, and I loved to go out there and read at night and listen to the waves. The housekeeping was fair, but the food was terrible!! Would try another condo next time for that reason. We looked at Secret Cove after driving around for a half hour trying to find it!! It looked beautiful. I'd try that next time. The Marriott was VERY windy and seemed to big to me. I wouldn't stay there, although the view of Charlotte Amalie and the boats at night is unbelievable.
Restaurants: Found one called Mike Mallones that was really cute, outside, music every night. The woman that sings sounds just Like Patsy Cline, and she does "Crazy". Duffy's was too loud for us. Blue Moon was nice but the service was slow. Our FAVORITE restaurant by far was Woody's on St. John. Great food and fun atmosphere!!
Beaches: I liked ours because they had water sports. We went jet skiing and went all the way to St. John. FUN!! Magen's Bay was better than Trunk Bay I thought because it was longer to walk on and it is just as beautiful. But they are both great.
Activities: Liked shopping at Charlotte Amalie and the tour of St. John. Our ten year old loved the boat ride to St. John, the tour there, and golfing at Mahogany Run. My father, who is a golfer, said it was very picturesque but the course itself sucked!
So in all, we had a great time and want to go back. The things we liked best were the beauty of the island, the ability to strike up conversations with people all day long. The people, locals and tourists, love to talk, and we loved listening and learning. We met so many awsome people!!! There were a lot of early 20 kids there for the season or to try it out. The worst part.....driving through most areas at night was dangerous in my view....beggers at KMart and the Cruz Bay ferry, people "hanging out" at very shady areas...would definitly not want to have the car break down at night!!!
Thank you so much to everyone who answered my questions. You guys were right on about everything, and I appreciate your time. Oh, the Dependabe Auto Rental place was very good too.

Thank you so much for the report, Theresa.

I've been lurnking for a few weeks, since my husband asked for a vacation for his birthday present. (Selfish, selfish man 🙂 We spent a day at Magan's beach in 2001 while on a cruise stopover, and I can't wait to go back. I crave the sun, the warmth and the blues of the water and skies. This will be a combo birthday and Christmas present for us and an early 30th wedding anniversary celebration.

We got a pretty good package deal at the Crystal Cove ( made the reservations last Sunday for the middle of January through Expedia.com,) so I am very happy to hear that the beach is good. Thanks, also, for the restaurant review.

Any advise and little secrets are appreciated.

Hello Theresa - Thanks for the Review!! Enjoyed reading your trip report and sounds like you had a great time!

Secret Cove - I think you meant Secret Harbor??? If so - yes its a bit difficult to find since the road is a switchback so if you miss the sign then you'll pass it.

Thanks again for sharing.

Islander:
Yes, I did mean Secret Harbour. Thanks for correcting me. I do want to remember that for the next time we go down. I noticed (being the beach bum that I am) that if you pick something on the south side of the island you can sit toward the water and have your face in the sun. Not important to some people, but I like that.

A daysail on the Winifred was AMAZING! The captain's name is Sharon and her 1st mate was full of great info and island trivia...he's only been on the island for 3 or 4 years, but all-in-all the highlight of our trip.

You can find her at www.sailwinifred.com

Have a great time.
