Heading to Tortola but we have to stay overnight on St. Thomas. What's best place to stay with good restaurant nearby or on premises? Or should we look for a place on St. John. First time to the Virgin Islands

If you only have one night, I wouldn't do the ferry thing to STJ (although have to admit, you're missing the best island), stay on STT and maybe stay at the red B&B on the hill in C.A. You will get an unbelievable verbal historical tour, an enjoyable host, and a great view! It depends on what you're after for one night. If you're after a beach, then stay at Secret Harbor. If money is no object, check with Sherri on this forum and she'll set you up with a great property, if available.

Ronnie, Sherri, Pia, STT jump in here anytime....

Ron, looks like yours a special place and would love to try it. But do you accept little children. Don't want to be a bummer if anyone else is there if one of them has a meltdown. Doesn't happen often, but it happens and after a long day of travel, the airplane, strange places, the excitement don't know how a 2 and 4 year old would react. Most B&B's, at least here in MA. don't accept or really discourage kids. (unless you are available to babysit - that would be a plus!) Secret Harbor looks good with a beach so they could play in the morning and have something to eat before the ferry ride to check into the house in the afternoon on Tortola.
Thank you for your quick answers.

BVIBound: I'd like to add that Ronnie is renown for his babysitting expertise - I think I remember he even received a VI Babysitter Merit Badge from the Chamber of Commerce a couple of years ago, His methods do tend to be a little unorthodox but I wouldn't let that bother you. Crystal Palace was built in the old days and has a sizeable below-ground chamber adjacent to the cistern. If youngsters get really out of hand they're put down there for some "quiet time out" and I've heard it's absolutely amazing how quickly they become little cherubs.

That said, Ronnie will take very good care of you and yours and you'll have a unique experience in a special place. Cheers! And enjoy your first vacation in the islands!

STT, let's not carried away on his babysitting skills. Although I do remember a few years back some skill in babysitting some young just out of college type girls. But that's a long story and I won't go into it now, since he's got a superb reputation he's trying to uphold.

I SECOND THE CRYSTAL PALACE.

I hope you all know the humor and wit STT Resident and Promoguy are trying to display. 🙂 I third Crystal Palace. He can also recommend good restaurants etc. for you. He isn't on a beach, but the view is tremendous.

Those college girls will be back for the fourth trip this Labor Day. It's a tough job, but somebody has to babysit them!
