we are staying in stt one night before a yacht charter and need a reccommendation on where to stay. we want somewhere cheap, relatively clean and safe. we will be flying in at around 9 pm and picking up the charter in red hook, so perhaps a place closer to the airport would be better? any thoughts on this? we don't need any frills at all, just a place to sleep at night! thanks for any info you could give us!

It is only about a mile from the airport. We stayed there for 3 nites the last week in April. All beachfront rooms. You can fall asleep listening the waves. Price was right ($159/night) - included a very basic continental breakfast - but, outside in its open air restaurant made up for the limited choices.
We enjoyed our stay there and felt that it was a really good buy for the price. Also, a really lovely beach - if you are an early riser, you would have time to enjoy it before you check out. They also have a lovely pool - that even though they say it closes at 6 at night, the front desk person told us that we were welcome to use it at any time keeping in mind that there is no lifeguard. We were in late one night - it was great!
