Hello everyone!

My prayers and well wishes are with all of you. Although I haven't been to your paradise yet, we are coming in Feb11. Just through my research and booking I have developed a closeness to your home and I feel so much for all of you and hope you are well.

Once things settle down, if anyone has information on shore/surf fishing, I'm sure my husband would appreciate it.

Is it feasible to shore/surf fish on STJ? Where do you get a license? Can you rent the appropriate equipment?

Thanks so much! Again..no hurry...I realize you have much more important things going on right now. I truly appreiate your input...(the jeep info on an earlier post was very helpful).

Take Care,
Mary Beh

This site has some really great info on fishing, you can find it here: https://www.vinow.com/general_usvi/more_info/fishing/usvifishingregulations.php

When I go fishing, it's almost always shore fishing, and I use a handline (also called a yo-yo), and stick to bottom fishing. I use about a 1oz sinker, and a 2/0 hook baited with frozen squid, on a 10lb test. You can buy frozen squid at almost all of the grocery stores on St. John. You can rent or buy gear at Ocean Runner, which is on the beach side in Wharfside Village. You cannot fish in Jumbie or Trunk Bay, but you can fish just about everywhere as long as it is not a posted swimming area (marked by buoys). You do not need a licenses. Check the link for other regulations on what you can catch and their seasons.

Thank you so much for the great information. Anywhere I can arrange for fishing the hubby the better.

Thanks again!

You are in luck! Since you can do it from just about everywhere. I often have a "set up" in my beach bag.....just in case! My husband tends to treat snorkeling as a scouting mission. 😀

Try the rocks off of Frank Bay. Have to walk out on rocks but have had good luck there. Park by water station. Private road sign.
