My wife and I started talking vacation about 6 months ago and her only requirement was that she did not want to be hot for this years vacation. Well there goes the beach - there goes the VI's - oh well. So now all concentration is on South Dakota - Mt Rushmore - Crazy Horse monument - Black Hills - mountains. Now for the last month or so it's all about putting the final touches on all major details. I now have our Airline and flights picked out to arrive in Rapid City S.D, we have finally agreed on the hotel located somewhere in the Black Hills and I got a line on a rental car through Dollar. So now everything is set on target, all we have to do is pull the trigger. Yes we pulled the trigger -----------Our plane lands in St.Croix on July 10 @ 3:21pm - were staying at the Southgate Villas for 9 nights and renting a car from Judi of Croix -- Life is soooo good right now I just had to share

Nothin but luv

I'm not sure how much you know about the weather in the midwest, but I think that you definately made the right choice. I'm from the neighboring state of Iowa, and it can get brutally hot here. On average it will be in the 70's to 80's, but heat waves can spike to over 100 degrees. You'll have to check out the weather channel and compare the weather, their's a good chance that the weather will be cooler in STX.

It's called island pull and I believe it's one of those 'attraction' things best explained by Einstein or Newton.

bnsilly - It was a tuff choice but I do plan to see those attractions in the very near future -- just couldn't pass up this STX opportunity

IAMolly - oh yeah, I know those summers, but I like it hot - my wife not as much -- Alaska next year for her we hope

Chris at Work - there was that strong "island pull" - that maybe better explained by Jimmy Buffett or Kenney Chesney rather than Einstein or Newton*-)8-)

Work with me...
I was trying to relay the 'gravity' of the decision making process.

Good choice. However, try to make it to the Black Hills area, you wont be disappointed. We went there 7 years ago and it was blast. Just a few musts, rent a car and see: drive through The Badlands, Wall Drug (its touristy but fun), Keystone (Mount Rushmore) the area around it is beautiful, Devils tower long drive but worth it and on the way back stop in Deadwood.

Just suggestions for the future.

Have as great time on STX.

Steve, I thought you were serious about the Black Hills. Last summer about 15 cars in our Vett club made the trek to the Black hills. 1st of all we have driven west on I70 and I80 but I90 west is the worst , so it is smart to fly. It was so hot, even up high, that we couldn't put the top down, on the day we left it was 109. No doubt, it is beautiful there but I suggest you go in a cooler month, and enjoy those cooler StX breezes!
