I know the weather can be iffy sometimes and that October is hurricane season...but is early October really that bad? What is Columbus Day like on the Island? Is everything closed or is it business as usual? Planning a week's visit and want to get the most out of our trip. Does anyone have any info into either Horizons II or Limnos to BVI? And what about the Fantasy Day Sail? Thanks for any info you can provide.

We don't really celebrate Columbus Day because we don't believe in celebrating the life of someone who let to the destruction of so many innocent people. So we have our own holiday on the same day: Puerto Rico/Virgin Islands Friendship Day. Supermarkets and stores would be open, but banks and federal offices are defintiely closed. About the hurricanes, every October isn't the same. It could be wet, it could be dry. More likely to be wet, in my opinion.

Once again, the best place to learn about Virgin Island monthly high and low temperatures, average rainfall, and chances of getting hurricaned on is here:

I know that some of us read the boards daily Regan, but others don't. It is not nice to use terms like 'once again' when someone is asking a question. If you don't like the repeats don't answer, or just put a directive like the website down.

I think this question comes up a lot because people spend 1000's of dollars for this one week to visit these islands and weather is always a bit of a risk whenever you travel. I've been to Vegas many times and never expected to have to shop for sweatshirts but one time I did in late May.

Liegh, if your overly concerned about the weather make sure you know the hotel policy on getting your refund back (if you had to place one). I noticed in my research most are a 48 hour notice on the refund for half. I believe a hurricane coming in is arguable. As for airfare, get the insurance on the tickets.

Thanks to each of you that have replied to a newcomer to this particular board.
Eve, thank you. Yes, I will have insurance as I never make travel plans this far ahead without purchasing insurance. My husband and I can only come one particular week and that's early October...so I guess we will make the most of it and hope for the best. Will be watching the weather reports come September and first week of October.

I totally agree with you Eve - Regan not only were you rude on this question but also to the girl that asked about the levis above - if you get fustrated answering questions, then don't do it - it is that simple.

My most profound apologies to all. I certainly didn't mean to come across as rude or short, use of the "once again" was I suppose just because this topic had been discussed multiple times within the past 48 hours and I was feeling redundant. I completely understand anyone's concerns about weather, as a sailor I tend to obsess about it myself. As to the remark about the Levis, it was completely tongue-in-cheek, which I guess didn't translate well.

I realize I'm suffering here from the fact that I'm new on this board, otherwise you would all know that I never take myself too seriously, and virtually any opinion I may express or even imply is always done with a wry smile and good humor. Kelly and Eve, you're right - grumpy people simply don't have to participate, and I've never quite figgered out why they sometimes do.

I'll try to do a better job of accurately expressing myself.

Regan

Thanks Regan!
It is important also to have knowledgeable people like you on the board to answer questions... You will be an asset to the board. Just remember, humor doesn't translate well on-line. You can use * or " with a 🙂 to let us know if your being a little *tongue-in Cheek*!
