I decided to take this trip to STJ in October for several reasons.

Most important, it fits our schedule fairly well.

We often take our annual "just the two of us" trip in the fall, when its also convenient for my mom to come down and watch the boys for us.

I carefully scheduled the trip to be before the cruise ship schedules pick up, so that we may be able to see some of the more popular sights when they aren't quite so crowded.

It is off season, so the rental rates are a little bit of a help to the travel budget.

All that being said, I just wonder;

Does off season translate to fewer people visiting?

Does that mean it may be easier to find a place to park in Cruz Bay?

Will a lot of the businesses be in hibernation?

Other than tropical storms, is the weather more likely to be more like summer or creeping towards what they call winter in the islands?

Bugs any better or worse?

Anything else I'd likely want to be aware of?

October is very quiet on St. John. Yes, a lot of businesses are closed, but I'd say enough are still open to keep you occupied/happy. Yes, parking is easier to find in October...thank goodness! St. John is more likely to get rain in October because of the tropical waves that pass through. Bugs would be worse because of the increased rain, so don't forget bug spray!
Other than that, I can't think of anything else you'd need to know. Just don't come down here counting on going to your one favorite restaurant/store/bar only to be disappointed that they are closed. You'll have to be a little more flexible. October is still hurricane season, so keep that in mind as well.
I personally love how quiet it is here in October...the beaches, and island in general, are a lot less crowded.

Thank you Andrea!

We'll definitely be flexible as we have no favorite, or even "must-see" restaurants or shops.

If it rains we'll either stay inthe villa and chill, or get wet (we plan to be wet a good portion of the week rain or shine anyway!).

I do like the sound of a relatively quiet island for a week, sounds soooo relaxing.....ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ
