Hi-
Anyone have any recent ocean temperatures for the St. Thomas area? THX
Not sure of todays water temperature but the average winter temp is 79 degrees and the average summer temp is 83 degrees.
Thanks IAMolly-
I looked at the chart for average water temps on the webpage but was wondering if anyone knew firsthand. 🙂
Guess I'll have to just wait until my visit on 1/23! Can't wait to see the ocean.
You can find the actual temperature listed hourly or charted at www.ndbc.noaa.gov -- use buoy 41043 -- this is the deep water temperature listed and as WTMP - inshore and in protected shallow waters it is even warmer.

WOW! I looked at that website and it is pretty technical. I think I understand it tho. You must be someone who is out in the waters pretty frequently?
Bottom line... I can imagine the water temps will be quite nice and refreshing. Thanks for your help. 🙂
Ocean temp is 79 since Dec 23. No thermocline.
the buoy is located at over 5200 Meters of water depth and has the ATMP average water temp at 78.5'F in general so the dive info given above is truthfully as close as can be expected -- -- in a shallow bay with a sandy bottom it will be a bit warmer from the sun and lack of water movement - maybe 80.5'For so. I am on or in the water most days -- I wear a L/S rash guard for snorkeling this time of year and am comfortable for 30-50 min. at a time.
