Hi! A group of four of us are staying on St. John and interested in going to Jost Van Dyke for New Year's Eve. Does anyone have advice on the best way to get to the island? I've heard horror stories of the lines for the ferry and customs. Any help is greatly appreciated!

An alternative to the public ferry is Dolphin Water Taxi:

Thank you! Are the customs and ferry lines typically as bad as the stories discussed on this forum?

Hi. We (4 of us) did a cat trip from Mongoose Junction with a group of 25 about 5 yrs ago. They did a nice job with food and getting us to and from. No issues with customs because they took care of everything for you. To be honest though, we thought the whole thing once we got to JVD was way more hyped than worth it and were regretting being a captive audience. We expected much more of a fun, lively party scene but seemed pretty boring. We always wonder if we were there on an off year or if the stories did not live up to our expectations. We did hear later that doing the private party at foxy's might be a better experience but couldn't give you any advice on that. Overall, we would have preferred to spend the money on a private day charter to Foxys and Soggys which we've done since then and was more fun. But again, everyone has different expectations/ experiences.

I'd be happy to look up the name of the Cat trip if you are interested. Our research made it seem like this was a much better way to go (we'd heard about people sleeping on the beaches and leaving the next day). I could also send you a suggestion on private day charters. Hopefully our experience was just off from others because we'd heard so many good stories prior to going. Good luck and have a great New Years!!

I am considering going in am on Dec 31 assuming the weather is nice, returning next day with possible stop for RR on Sand Spit JVD. I can take four people on 50 ft sailboat. PM me if interested.
