We will be traveling to St. Thomas soon with our four "adult" children ages 18-22. We are staying by Cowpet Bay. I am looking for information on nightlife in the area. Red Hook is close by, but don't know what options are there. They are looking for good island music/entertainment. I am somewhat nervous about the crime that is mentioned on the island...how bad is it?
Also, has anyone stayed at the Elysian Resort? How are the restaurants there? Are there groceries available within walking distance?
Thanks,
Nancy
I'll start with the last part! Robert's and Ainsley's are the two Elysian restaurants, run by the same couple, Kevin and Laura. Ainsley's is directly on the beach- more casual (pizza, sandwiches). Robert's has a piano bar, slightly more upscale (fish specialties, vaguely southern inspired food). These are two of my favorite east end restaurants.(tu)
No groceries, or much of anything except the Ritz, within walking distance.
Latitude 18 has live music, but it varies as to style. Most of the clubs play a variety of music, with some island styles thrown in. There are several places in Red Hook most notably Duffy's, so if they just stay on that little strip, they'll find a variety of casual things going on. Poet's is supposed to be the more island elegant, but that's hard to enforce around here.
The action is now starting to pick up more in the Havensight area thanks to Yacht Haven Grande, Shipwreck Tavern expansion, and Hooters. A new club (the Rock, I think) should be opening soon, but there's a party on Wed nite (ladies' night?), Fri nite, and Sat nite.
