We're spending New Years Eve on St Thomas, staying at Secret Harbour. Looking for suggestions for a way to bring in 2008. Thanks.

You could catch the ferry to Jost Van Dyke I hear thats suppose to be one of the best new years experiences in the world.
The ferry comes back around 2 am I beleive. Leaves out of red hook. Cheers!!

Michele:

My daughter and her friends are staying over New Years......and will be going to Foxy's on Jost Van Dyke for New Years Eve.

You must reserve the ferry ahead of time....the bookings start (I believe) December 1.

Have a great trip.

I would suggest just hanging in the Red Hook area. Plenty of parties there!

The blogs, over the years, have painted a wild and over-the-top pictue of NYE on Jost. If i was 25 - or maybe 30, maybe. But, at 40 y/o, I need a private place to use the restroom (not on the beach) and a somewhat seasoned crowd....people who have been there and done that...and are looking to maintain brain cells from one year to the next. I like Ron's idea of Red Hook. Maybe see what the Ritz has going. I was surprised that they had some live beachfront music over July 4th for the fireworks. It felt festive - just the right level of action for me.

Read the blogs about Foxy's before you decide. I live in a large East Cost city - been to too many "can't get a drink, can't go to the bathroom, can't get out" NYE parties....no more. I think Foxy added more port-a-potties and such after the intial swell. still......ouch. Though, I'm sure you would "party like a rockstah"...with monied yachties and all. Maybe Paris Hilton will be there - and Britney - and Kim K. Seriously.

I spent Old Year's at Foxy's last year. It was such a great vibe... only a few over the top partiers (in their 20's). Young and old, locals and visitors walking the sandy street in Great Harbour. Left at 1:00, stayed at Ivan's where the music continued thru the night but not loud enough for us to fall asleep (in our tent). I'm nearing 50, not at all a partier but would absolutely recommend it at least once. I'm going again this year!

Cathy, Thank you! First hand knowledge is much better than speculation and outdated blog research. Did Ivan charge a premium and how far in advance did you book?

I really want to stay at Ivans and had never thought about doing it over NYE.

Blue,
I just showed up with my tent... it was crowded, not the usual assigned tent spaces. A cottage may still be available now but they book up fast for Old Years, no premium pricing. Tenting allows me to afford a nice meal at Corsairs. Hoping to head over this weekend if Karen stays away. Ivan's my favorite get-away from STT.
