We're going to be staying in Coral Bay the week between Christmas and New Years. Does anyone have any suggestions for New Years Eve? Dinner? Music? Activities? Any restaurant suggestions for any day? Also, any cruises or other tours that don't involve swimming or snorkeling? Island Tours?

Hello Candy22,

You can do self guided tours of the island if you are renting a jeep. Get a book like St. John Feet, Fins and Four-Wheel Drive which includes a section with jeep tours. You can find that book at: http://www.vitraders.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=V&Category_Code=gub. It also has information on snorkeling and trails for St. John. If you aren't renting a jeep you can take tours by taxi.

The National Park offers a few Interpretive programs like a guided hike of Reef Bay Trail, bird watching, coastal plants and animals walk. You can check their events calendar at http://www.nps.gov/viis/planyourvisit/events.htm; contact them for more information. Also, there are some eco-tour businesses that offer guided hikes. And if you get the book mentioned or another like it you can hike on your own with the information in the book as a reference of what you are seeing, flora/fauna, historical information.

New Years Eve; most restaurants on island do a special dinner, some have music. You could head to the big party on Jost Van Dyke http://www.foxysbar.com/oldyears.html.
