Just looking for some suggestions of a couple of things for me and my guy to do while we are on STJ in June. This is our 4th trip to our favorite destination on earth. We have done most of the restaurants, boat tours, visited most of the beaches, drove around the island. We aren't really hikers, so doing trails in the National Park is not really up our alley. However, we haven't been to the petroglyphs or Catherineberg. I have also read in "Off the Beaten Path" that there is an archaeological dig in Cinnamon Bay - is this still the case? Is it worth the visit? Any other suggestions for pseudo-veterans?
We are sure there are more "pearls" on STJ that we have yet to discover. I thought those that are regulars on this board are the best people to ask for advice. Thanks all!
You didn't mention doing it on past trips, so have you tried snorkeling? If not, that would be my #1 suggestion. How about renting a dinghy or kayak? The NPS has certain days that they lead volunteer outings for things like helping to clean up beaches. As for the hiking, that's just another word for walking.:D Try doing the Rams Head hike (walk). Just go early, take it slow & bring some water. The views are beautiful!
You say you aren't into hiking but are you willing to take a nice walk that takes about 20 minutes? You have to check out Europa Bay! We are frequent travelers of STJ, it's our slice of paradise and go every year. Each year we try to find something new and this past trip (February 08) we found Europa...........what an amazing place. Quiet, empty, nobody there and one of the most breathtaking spots on the island. Check it out!
Jill,
Where is Europa Bay? I haven't heard it mentioned before. I'll have to go home and look through my St. John books again!
Thanks,
Nicolle
Thanks for the recommendations Mango and Jill. I am also going to "Off the Beaten Track" too...looking forward to some down time with my toes in the sand and a painkiller in my hand! Cheers!
