Hi all,

I was wondering, for those who reserved/took the New Horizons II excursion, how long did it take the folks there to send you a confirmation email after you sent in the reservation form/credit card info?

Thanks!

I remember registering online...and then when you get to the end of that you have to fax it in--which was kind of a pain since I don't have a fax. Then, I don't think I ever did get any kind of email back saying they had received it. I called them to confirm. Once we were on the boat, they took my credit card AGAIN, so don't leave it back at the hotel!

Thanks Rose,

I am trying to get on "island time" and not expect real fast service like we tend to do in the states. I didn't want to be a pain in their side and bother them but after hearing you never even got a confirmation I guess I better call them--since I don't know where we are to go, what time, etc. :).

Thanks again.

We are still stuck in the eighties here. Your best bet is to call Holly at 340-775-1171 and book over the phone.

The trip is wonderful. And if you go, do book on line because you get a 10% discount. The boat is docked at right at the Sapphire Beach Marina. You meet the crew there at about 7:15. The company also owns the boat Breakaway, which is a bigger boat, and goes on the same trip. But I was glad we were on New Horizons II because it was faster. After picking up a few passengers in St. John, you head right for the Baths. This takes about an hour on a very rough sea. (So, if you're prone to sea sickness, I would NOT recommnend this trip.) I asked the captain if the seas were rough that day and he said it was typical, he had seen much worse. At the Baths, you will go on a guided tour. You literally squeeze through the rocks, at one point, you do an army crawl. I read an online question about someone being concerned if they were strong enough to make the swim from the boat to the Baths. Let me tell you, the swim is Nothing, but you do have to be fit to go through some of the rock areas. There was a young man on our trip that weighed about 220 lbs. and many times he had to go on an alternate route. (He couldn't squeeze his body through) The meal at Pussers is wonderful. I don't know exactly what I was expecting but it's a very casual yet elegant place. The setting is breathtaking. After lunch we went snorkeling. The snorkeling was not wonderful. Honestly, We saw more fish at Sapphire Beach. The last stop is Jost Van Dyke. This was nice. We didn't have much time to enjoy the beach, maybe 40 minutes. The ride back isn't as bad. This is an expensive trip. For our family of 4 (and we had one under 12) it was $423, then we paid $80 at customs, then we left a $50 tip for the crew, and then there was lunch at Pussers...that was another $60. I'm glad we did it. It would not be something I would rush to do again next year.

Plus, it's a beautiful sailboat, lots of room, awesome snorkeling (gear provided), plenty to drink and great food, vs. a powerboat trip. I think you'll enjoy it, Ginger!

We are going May 16. I sent them an e-mail back in Feb requesting a reservation. I received an e-mail the next day with a toll free numer asking that I call them to make the reservation. I called and spoke with Christina at 866-416-1205. She made the reservation and took my credit card number to hold the reservation, but indicated that the card would not be charged until after the trip, in the event I wanted to make other arrangmenents for paying at that time; ie, cash. Later that same evening I received a detailed confirmation of our reservation via e-mail in which I printed.

I never found a registration form on their web-site nor saw a 10% discount.

We have this trip booked next week. My girlfriend does not swim, how far is the swim at The Baths from the boat to the shore? Is the water very deep. As long as she has a floatation device she should be ok, can you give me your opinion
Thanks

I think she would be fine with a flotation device, or a life jacket. As I remember, the water is over your head when you swim in. My guess is that we swam in about 15 yards (?) It didn't seem far to me at all, but we are a family of strong swimmers. There is also a portion of the tour that you swim through the rocks. I think the water was up to my neck at that point. (And you only had to swim a 10 feet or so. Note: you also have to swim into shore at Jost Van Dyke. I'd say that's about 20 yards as well and I guess she could hang out on the boat when they make the snorkel stop. Even with a life jacket on, I can't imagine trying snorkeling in the open ocean if you don't know how to swim.

Thank Rose, when you look at the pictures, it looks shallow, lots of wading, I've snorkeled with a vest on before, but I can swim and don't need one. I'm not a big snorkel fan anyway, I prefer to see the fish at Coral World. Plus I can stay on the boat and keep tabs on the bar.....:)
