Has anyone booked with this sail boat excursion before? I'd like some opinions about it before we book. We will be in STJ for our honeymoon and wanted to experience a day cruise with lots of activities, etc.

After reading all of the great things about New Horizons II on this board, we decided to do the excursion. We had so much fun. We left St. Thomas around 7:30, went to St. John to pick-up more people and then we were off. Our captains were Chad and Wendy. They were a lot of fun. Had a little breakfast for us and whatever drinks (yes including painkillers) that we wanted. We went to the Baths first, then to Pussers for lunch, went snorkeling right around there and then our last (and best) stop was Jost Van Dyke to the Soggy Dollar Bar. The beach was amazing - everyone should experience. We got back around 4:30ish. This was our first trip to USVI and this was a great way to see and experience a lot in one day.

Took the sailing/snorkle all day trip to St. John just last Tuesday and it was a lot of fun. The drinks start pouring as soon as you leave the harbor at Shaphire Beach on St. Thomas (great Bloody Marys) and continue through out the day. Wide variety at the bar and a great lunch is served from sausage meatfalls to double rich Brownies. The reefs aren't the best I've seen but our day was overcast with some rain so I'm sure that made a difference. The three man/women crew is great, do all they can to enhance your fun and the islands are so beautiful to be sailing around. It's a great time, you'll enjoy it. We sure did! While on St. Thomas check out Coki beach, talk about pretty tropical fish, this is the place to see and swim with 'em.

Our family loved our New Horizons trip last year. The boat held 18 but there were only 12 people in our group. It provides a great sampling of the BVIs.

We went out yesterday and I saw the New Horizons II (it kind of was everywhere we went 🙂 ) and it looked to be a great boat - I would rent it myself and I do hear nothing but great reports on it. I'm sure you will have a great time on it.

when i went in may of 2006, we went to soggy dollar bar and we had an hour and a half there and we couldn't leave the group and go to foxy's, they said if we would've had more time then we would've stopped there too but we didn't end up getting to. check this excursion out too, i'm going in june of this year and this is what i'm going to check out next www.daydreamervi.com it has a jost van dyke day sail that sounds like fun!

I have to chime in with a not so positive response regarding our trip on the NHII. The captain and mate were very nice, fun people, let me get that out of the way. My comments are no reflection on their professionalism or kindness. That being said, the NHII trip just wasnt for us. We were expecting alot more snorkeling. For us it seemed the focus was stopping at different places to eat or drink rather than to snorkel. We honestly wished we wouldnt have taken the trip as we would have had a better snorkel experience on STJ. So if you really enjoy being on a boat, seeing the Islands from a different perspective, and visiting a few bars/resturants then you'll have a great time. If however, you were loooking for a more activity based excursion (i.e. snokeling or hiking around the Bathes) then I wouldnt reccommend this trip. Please do not flame me, this is just my opion. I wish I would have saved my money and spent more time snorkeling.

I don't think any flaming is in order! 🙂

The purpose of a power boat day trip to the BVI is to give a visitor an overview or sample of what the BVI has to offer. You can't do it all in one day! So yes, you are correct, the day boats have a little snorkeling and a little sightseeing and a little beach bar hopping.

East Ender, I only made the flaming comment because the last time I responded thusly I was attacked by people who loved the trip and were upset at my opinion. I agree whole heartedly that the trip is a little of sightseeing, bar/food hopping and snorkeling; at the time we booked (two years ago) the billing/advertising was heavily weighted with information about snokeling and as it turned out that was the least of what we did. It's not that we hated the trip but it wasn't at all what we expected. Many on here really enjoy it, I just like to offer my outlook for those who might have similar desires as mine.
