HI...I'M CONSIDERING AN EXTENSIVE STAY ON BOARD A SLOOP....APPROX 6 MOS TO 1 YEAR, IN THE US VI. I HAVE VERY LITTLE INFORMATION ON HOW FEASIBLE IT IS. IF YOU CAN SHED SOME LIGHT ON DO'S, DON'TS AND WHAT TO EXPECT PLEASE EMAIL ME......THANK YOU VERY MUCH....MIKE
First of all........DONT SHOUT 🙂 (if you don't know posting in all caps is considered shouting - just for your info)
Anyway, I would post this on the relocation message board - upper right hand corner is the link - many "locals" in the VI's (I am one but don't know anything about live aboards sorry) will be able to help - do a search first as I remember it being discussed not to long ago and alot of good info with prices etc were given.

Hi
We lived aboard for 4 months before sailing down island and then another 4 after our return. Red Hook is a great place. You have everything you need - groceries, gas, ice, water and fuel at the dock, laundermat, shops, bar, restaurants, etc. Most of the boater anchor nearby in Vessup (but the ferry boats can beat you up if you are on the boat all day). Or go around the point to Christmas cove (a lot of liveaboards here). Depends too on how good of a dinghy you have and how far you want to travel.
Avoid downtown Charlotte Amalie - not a great anchorage.
