My family of 4 (2 kids ages 11 and 6) will be flying in to St. Thomas next Thanksgiving and we'll have 5 nights. We'd prefer to stay in St. John but we're open minded about St. Thomas.
What we are looking for is a beachfront (mandatory sandy beach) condo or private home with a pool. I've looked at several websites with properties on St. John and many are very nice but I'm not seeing the sandy beaches that my wife wants.
I haven't investigated St. Thomas yet. Are my chances of finding something meeting our requirements better there?
The price range we're in is between $1500-$2000 for the 5 nights. Anyone have any advise? Thanks in advance!

On St John try Lisa at Vacation Vistas for a rental. We rented a villa from her last spring and had an excellent experience.
Her website is: http://vacationvistas.com
We stayed waterfront on Great Cruz Bay at the "Splash" villa. See:

You won't see a great expanse of white sandy beach, but it sure was nice. Our kids loved the place. For your price tag, I'm not very confident that you'll find something (especially over Thanksgiving) with much of a white sandy beach. Many of the best white sandy beaches on St John are part of the National Park thus don't have condos/homes built on them. But keep trying...maybe Lisa can help.

We've stayed at Point Pleasant on the east end of St. Thomas for the last 3 years. Its property borders Pineapple Beach at the hotel ( can't remember the name) where they filmed "Weekend at Bernie's II". Both of these hotels are about a 5-7 minute walk from Coral World and, highly rated Coki Beach, that always ranks high in snorkeling places in the world or, so I'm told. I will tell you that the snorkeling is fabulous at Coki.
We're going again Feb. 11,2003 but, staying on Water Island. You can sure bet, we'll be hitting Coki as many times as is possible!!!!!!
