Hi there,
Last year we bought at the Westin St John and are going back and taking my father and sister! we should be getting there around July 3rd - hopefully catching a day or 2 of carnival. my questions are, I heard it is cheaper to rent a car in St Thomas - in reading the forums I found that some places in STJ offer free parking if you rent through them. I have no idea what the rates are or the differences. I was also wondering if google maps works well here. My wife and I enjoy snorkeling a lot so need to know the best spots there, and lastly. my sis and bro in law are going to scuba - is there better scuba on STT?
thanks in advance for all your help!

Yea for your upcoming trip. We always rent on St. John and prefer St. John Car Rental. We have also rented without any major problems from Courtesy, but just more pleased with StJ CR. You can park in both of those rental companies lots, but truthfully, we rarely do. If you decide to rent from STT, make sure they allow you to take the car to St. John and see what type of accomodations they offer if you have car trouble. Will they come to StJ to fix it, etc?

I haven't ever used google maps, there are really only a few major roads, North Shore, Centerline and SouthShore/Gift Hill Rd so it seems all directions just break off those roads and landmarks are used more than anything. If you drive long enough, it's not hard to find things!

For snorkeling, we love the right side of Maho as you are standing looking at the water. The left side of Francis, and Hawknest is good too directly from the beach. If you are willing to walk just a little, snorkeling Waterlemon Cay is usually great too! Need to be comfortable snorkeling and swimming to do that though!

As for scuba, we've done two different trips off St. John. Went with 6paq and with Low Key. 6paq, very informative and smaller group, very safe. Low Key-more people, did more dives, but no individual attention.

Hope some of this helps!

I guess you are here already - check out Chris Sawyer diving at Caneel Bay run by Perry - Chris's partner. Great operation - otherwise they would not be at Caneel! Large boat. Individual attention. Great equipment.
