I saw an episode of Cribs on MTV and they had Richard Branson's island getaway in the BVI. The guy owns his own island with 2 beautiful homes on it. The island and the homes are unbelievable. I was wondering if any of the locals know anything about it?
I'm not local but Necker is a few hundred yards off the coast of the Bitter End Yacht Club on Virgin Gorda in BVI. I understand that it is available for rent (when Richard or his guests are not there) for about $35,000 per day. It's not "explorable" due to security and is somewhat unremarkable from the water. The BEYC is a much better bargian with the same views. Other BVI haunts (worth passing through customs for include the Baths Foxy's and the Soggy Dollar. Hope this helps.
Last year (I think?) on NBC's Today show, the annual "Where in the World is Matt Lauer?", the last stop was Necker Island, hosted by Lauer with Branson. They did pieces on various islands, IIRC the USVI as well as the BVI, but don't quote me on that.
Branson was having fun, including hopping in a pool after grabbing one the supermodels, showing off the outdoor toilet on the guest house that overlooked the ocean, and in the closing segment, he and Lauer were leaving on a catamaran and Branson tossed him off the boat, Matt looked truly surprised.
At any rate, they showed some things about Necker as well as various VIs.
One more thing, they also had Jimmy Buffett there to play, it was a day or two after he had been at the Westin for the Philip Morris folks.
His house was also on the MTV show Cribs.
It was amazing!
Everybody in the BVI knows of it. It's been there for a long time. It is for rent.
