This might be a silly question. I know the USN had control of the USVI up until the 40s I think, and there is still an area referred to as Sub Base in STT. Is the Navy still there and is there still an actual sub base? I recall seeing a military HUMV on my last visit but didn't really pay attention to it other than noticing how very large it looked on the small roads...hehe.

Just curious.

Subbase is no longer used as a naval base, although when there are naval ships visiting the island they frequently use Subbase to dock. Subbase today is mostly industrial and is also used as an overflow for visiting cruise ships when the West Indian dock is full.
