Hello John,

Its a Wind Advisory that is in effect until 6pm AST this evening for higher elevations on Puerto Rico and some areas of the Virgin Islands. Its tied in with the rain showers/stormy weather we've been having the last couple days.

While it would be nice to have perfect weather...whatever one's idea of "perfect" is..I'd suggest that a 'vacation" is a state of mind. From looking at this board for the past several months, it appears that there's always something to do regardless of the weather. From my experience backpacking and canoeing...the MOST memorable experiences are the ones that the weather wasn't perfect. Relax and enjoy whatever Mama Nature is distributing!

Hey, Canoebase, we may all say that now but I sure am keeping my fingers crossed for dry weather in early Nov on STJ as its tough to snorkle when the waters are choppy! Plus, we've had a full week of rain around Boston and I'm about to spend a couple of days in Seattle so enough is enough!!! Our very first trip to STJ was terrific except for the last 1.5 days and I'll never forget the sad looks on the faces of a young woman who was so happily anticipating the sunshine and had rain instead. Nothing, (I hope) can be as "bad" as the hours on end we spent in the rain in Jamaica a couple of years ago-yuck!

Hi - we are arriving on the 17th - is it that bad? I am a single mom bringing my kids,25,22,19,17. We haven't got to do anything like this and haven't had many vacations. Please, would somebody tell me what to expect. I don't think I have an option to cancel, unles the trip insurance has something. But, I just got this all put together in the last week. I thought I saw something about not much coverage if 15 days or less. How long do they expect this to last? And where can I finf more info? we have some pretty nasty weather here - thunderstorms, blizzards, but that's not using up my hard-earned money either.

From all research i have done and called and spoke with a few locals i came to the conclusion that this will last at least another week or so, that's why i posponed our trip till December.

Good luck and let us know how it was if you decide to go.

I realize that everyone would like to have great weather for their vacations, but, seriously, the odds of us having more than a couple hours of overcast weather are very slim. I know that most of you are coming from America, where the weather can sit on you for days, but we are in the path of the Tradewinds...that means an almost constant change. Our typical "rain" is only about 20 minutes long, then it's back to sunshine and rainbows. At the time of this typing (10 a.m., 10-12-05), it's blue skies and sunshine, maybe 84 degrees, Easterly Tradewind breeze at 5-10 knots, chance of rain 20%...just like normal. It's very rare that we have weather like what has just passed. It happens...but, rarely. Don't even give it another thought, Tree. Unless we have a Tropical Storm or Hurricane on it's way, c'mon down and you'll have a great vacation!
