*I would like to know the words for our national anthenm and the national bird and the virgin islands song.
All hail our Virgin Islands, Emeralds of the sea, Where beaches bright with coral sand, And trade winds bless our native land. All hail our Virgin Islands, Bathed in waters blue, We give our loyalty full to thee, And pledge allegiance forever true. To thee our Virgin Islands, Loving voices raise, A song in praise of brotherhood, Where right makes might to fight for good. To thee our Virgin Islands, Haven of the free, We sing our love to thee, Joyously, Our own fair islands of liberty. March on oh Virgin Islands, In joyful throng, Uphold the right and right the wrong, Where only peace and love belong. March on oh Virgin Islands, Democratic land, Together hand-in-hand, Take your stand, Forever soldiers in freedoms band. God bless oh Virgin Islands, Humbly bow we pray, Where all mankind can join today, In friendly warmth of work and play. God bless oh Virgin Islands, Beautiful and tall, Beneath a sunny sky, Hilltops high, Hold out a welcome for one and all.
Wow, Islander!
I never knew this song existed. It would be great if an audio set up could be created on the site and you could sing it for us all.
Thanks,
Gerie
PS. Sherina, Our National Anthem is The Star Spangled Banner. The bird is the Bananaquit.
Hello Gerie,
Thats our song, the Virgin Islands March. And yes I can sing it... LOL but I'll pass on recording myself and having an audio clip available on the site. 🙂 I wanted to share what it sounded like so I found a site that has an instrumental version http://david.national-anthems.net/vi.htm
In listening to it on that site the lyrics start about 1 minute into the instrumental. You can try singing along :).
An interesting note: It was written by Alton Adams, Sr. He was from St. Thomas and was the first black bandmaster in the U.S. Navy. More on Adams at http://www.cbmr.org/adams/whowas.htm

That was great!
And yes, I did sing along. Thanks.
Now I can hum it while I shovel 8 inches of snow out of my driveway.....grrrrrrrr.
