*Are there any museums in St. Thomas where one might learn more about the history of the island, the slave trade, pirate trade, or see artifacts or remnants of the indian population? Beaches and shopping are nice, but we like to learn something about places we visit.

There is an old fort in Charlotte Amalie that is a museum. There also is an excavation/ archeological site in St. John.

Susan: Patrick is correct about the Ft Christian museum. It is open on a government schedule (Monday-Friday 9-5ish except the 24 or so government holidays). There is also a private museum, "Seven Arches", which is a restored home on Government Hill. You can call Barbara and Philibert for more information at 340-774-9295.

Hello Susan,

Take a look at the various attractions of historical nature (Fort, 99 steps, churches, buildings, "pirate castles") listed under (cut and paste this link)

https://www.vinow.com/stthomas/attractions_stt/

select all the pages for in town. The Fort and renovated homes like Seven Arches are great options.
