Hello All,
Am thinking about spending this winter in the USVI and was hoping to get some advice/feedback/recommendations on where to stay (which island), and also hoping to get hooked up with some local resources to help in my quest.
I am taking the winter off, just sold my house...life is too short and I need to have a nice winter in a beautiful place. I have a 9 lb dog and a cat, who I hope would be coming with me. I am a 40 year old female professional, would love to be in a quiet island that offers good shopping and restaurants and beaches! Need to find something furnished...either a 1 bedroom or studio that is pet friendly, that costs around $1,000 per month.
Have done some research, St. Thomas sounds very nice and would be a great place, but St. John's does also. My impression is that St. Thomas is more of a epicenter of the USVI, while St. John's seems to be more quiet.
If anyone could provide any of their insights, or if anyone knows of a rental company that could rent me a furnished apartment for 6 months or so, it would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance!
Hello, sherp: There is a sister board to this for relocation- click above right "Visit Relocation Message Board." All your questions shall magically be answered. 😉
(You forgot about St Croix and St John has no 's!)
Thank you!
Sherpa,
Shopping? Well, that depends on what you mean by shopping. There is Kmart sort of shopping and then there is Gucci type of shopping. Not a whole lot in between IMHO. Yes, there is some middle ground but if you haven't seen our "mall" you are in for a shock!

First thing is to determine what you want. St. John is the most expensive place to live. 1000 a month may be a problem. If you go to the relocation board you will the expected rates. There is another problem. You want to stay for the winter. Most places get most of their money during the winter. Read this board for apartments for rent. That will give you an idea.
You probably will not have a car at first. So you will want to be on the safari rout.
There is another problem. You pet will require that you go to a private home. Most resort do not allow pets. This can be a good thing if you want to enjoy the quiet of the islands. And most land lords, like myself, require an additional deposit.
Good luck. If you have any more questions you can PM me.
