Me & my husband are moving to St Thomas for 6 months. I am a traveling nurse and got a position there for the 6 months. We are very excited. Would love any info that might help us move or know what to pack. Also we are supposed to stay at Sapphire Village on the East end is that a nice area?? Another weird ? is what are the grocery stores like I heard that the prices are more expensive than the mainland but how is the selection? We eat alot of those 100cal packs as we have been on WW for quite a while are those available there? Any info anyone has would be much appreciated!! Thanks 🙂

Your best bet is to go over to the relocation forum (see "Visit Relocation Message Board") for lots of information on moving here. Yes, grocery prices are more expensive and if you go to the comparison shopping prices on the relocation page you should probably add another 15% to those listed prices as they are getting higher and higher every week now that the general recession is finally drifting down to us. That said, the supermarkets are well-stocked and you should be able to find pretty much everything you need although not necessarily all in one place - shopping is an exercise here! CostULess and Plaza Xtra are my markets of choice for price, quality and options. Cheers!

STT Resident is right.........we also belong to Price Smart (a membership store)......some prices are lower......this past January a yearly membership was $10. We also shop at Plaza Xtra, Cost-U-Less, K-Mart and Marina Market.

Sapphire Village is a nice (safe) place on the East End.

A lot of travelling nurses stay at the Point Pleasant Resort (also on the East End), as well.

Sapphire Village is right above Sapphire Beach which is a brisk walk away.

You will pay about 30-50% more for MOST food and staple items here.

Go to Cost you less, Price Mart (need to pay 10), kmart and plaza extra. If you can't get it at these places yo really don't need it.
